LOOPS OF PERCEPTION Workshop 3 - At the end of May, we were back at WSA for some River Itchen on-site testing and related activities. See us sealing boxes, test-dunking @lucieldridge ’s NOC-yellow “Cheese Log” housing, Esther tying knots girl guide-style, scouting the riverbed (thanks to Ian's @demondawson “Accretor”), and having a post-dunk AI-play with test data… thanks to Sadie @sotonastrodome and Ian for sharing what they came up with! #loopsofperception #roboticvision #gothlog #cheeselog #accretor #theloop #transdisciplinary @uni_southampton_wsa @uni_southampton

LOOPS OF PERCEPTION Workshop 2 - sensor visualisation, Pi programming, dry housings test-dunked in buckets (introducing “Goth Log”), fossil scanning, Snappy the Lobster, and the REAL Boaty McBoatface! Special thanks to workshop participants Esther and Martina for a fascinating behind-the-scenes look around the National Oceanography Centre #NOC #gothlog #boatymcboatface #theloop #roboticvision #loopsofperception @uni_southampton_wsa @uni_southampton

On 21 May, we kicked off our LOOPS OF PERCEPTION workshop series to explore <<how AI affects the looping relationship between robotic and human vision>> through drawing as transcription, speculative ekphrasis, reading the image, talking shop about how each of us interpret images of distant things, testing how AI interprets those interpretations, planning a DIY underwater sensing device (or two? or three?) Thanks to the Web Science Institute for supporting this project! #theloop #transdisciplinary #roboticvision @uni_southampton_wsa @uni_southampton

I will be at the book launch of ‘Robotic Vision and Virtual Interfacings: Seeing, Sensing, Shaping’ next week to answer questions about my chapter ‘Embodiment and the Perception of Nonhuman Sentience in Virtual Reality Interactive Art’ and offer you another chance to experience the technology behind SENTIENT FLUX firsthand, a previous work created in collaboration with Alexandra Adderley.

On Wednesday 8 May 6.30pm – 8.30pm, I invite you to participate in one of my previous VR experiences at the Science Museum in London, as part of the launch of new book ‘Robotic Vision and Virtual Interfacings: Seeing, Sensing, Shaping’.

The evening will include:

• A presentation from Meg Rahaim on her chapter ‘Discrete Accidents of Photogrammetry: Re-presenting Pure Surface in Google Earth’

• Interactive virtual reality experience Sentient Flux, which I created in collaboration with artist Alexandra Adderley, and is the focus of my chapter ‘Embodiment and the Perception of Nonhuman Sentience in Virtual Reality Interactive Art’

• Demonstrations by Ian Dawson and Paul Reilly of the Reflective Transformation Imaging technology discussed in their chapter ‘Metalithic Postcards in the Pandemic’

• Artworks by Kate Fahey from her chapter ‘Blinking Eyes: The Embodied Registers of Military Drone Camera Footage on YouTube’.
