Make Your Own Joy is all about shifting our perspectives to more introspection and gratitude so we can feel in control of how much joy we’re welcoming into our lives. Outside of the podcast I think it’s important to show how I am about to sustain joy through the many seasons of my life whether it’s easy or a bit more challenging.

Comfy + Casual

Something about seeing the world through dogs and little kids reminds me to not take anything for granted ! Look at everything as an adventure and new experience.

This was delicious. They use @kettltea matcha my absolute fave. Great quality. And the space in greenpoint is a vibe if you want to sit for a while.

@mehikaseph made me promise to bring pepper to see her one day so I had to keep the promise! About 7 years ago Mehika was house sitting for me and pepper decided to go into labor while I was at my sister’s graduation a whole 2 weeks earlier than the vet predicted. Safe to say I nearly gave my friend a heart attack but she did great. Her & Pep are now (trauma) bonded for life 😅

What are dome of your simple joys?

Scenes from our first Story Time salon with @nnekaj, who read a short story from The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by @deeshaphilyaw. We hear literacy rates are declining across the country, but not in our corner.

Look out for the next installment of Story Time: Reading the Greats next month! 🗓️💌

A throwback to the very first Twoubadou Night at Café Erzulie 🇭🇹✨

We took over jazz night and turned it into a celebration of Caribbean rhythm - A journey into Twoubadou.

This genre emerged from Haitian laborers in Cuba who were influenced by the local guajiro music style. Crossing borders, these melodies made their way back home, blending with Haitian méringue to create the Twoubadou sound we know today.

Hosted & Organized by @mehkinmoves & @frankxter_ _ the night featured unforgettable performances by @lotjannyc and @rasinokan , bringing that history to life in Brooklyn and reminding us how culture continues to move and evolve. 🎶

Stay connected for the next one. 💛

Beautiful night of Black history! Brought back Market Appointment Live on Tuesday with @stylesquared and @elizaruw. We discussed the birth and evolution of Black fashion (touching on key events like the Zoot Suit Riots and the ‘70s in New York), the global impact of Black creativity (i.e. streetwear, logomania, Kendrick Lamar’s performance etc.) & so much more.

Thank you to the 50+ people who showed up and to @thestandard for hosting! Can’t think of a better way to close out Black History Month 🖤 #marketappointmentlive
