Our final 2025 award🔥 Most Improved: Mel Hamilt There is no better indicator that you’re on the right path as a runner than setting a PR. Well, in 2025, we saw Melanie Hamilt crush their a PR 9 times. Moving through the distances we saw them run a 5k PR at the Blazing 5k in October, taking down their 18:44 PR from 2017 by running 18:17. At the DSM spring 4 miler we saw them set a 4 mile PR of 24:51. Coming off of their solid 4-mile performance, we saw them take down their 2021 PR in the 8k by nearly 5 minutes by running 29:54 at the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago. Then we jump forward to the Bix 7, where they set a 7-mile PR of 44:15 improving on their 2024 mark of 45:15. Moving towards the longer distances, we saw them knock out a 10 mile PR at Capital Pursuit running 64:06. This leads us into the half-marathon distance, where Mel PR’d 3 times throughout the year. Opening the year, they PR’d at the Running from Yeti half in March running 1:25. Then, in September it was the Quad Cities Half where we saw them run 1:23. Finally, in October at the Hot Cider Hustle they lowered that mark to 1:21:42. All, these great shorter distance race were key indicators that Mel could take down their marathon PR. In November, at the UNO Indianapolis Marathon we got to see that in action as they ran a 2:49:46. This performance was not only a 5 minute PR from 2:54 set in 2024, but also moved them up to an Iowa #34 All-Time. We are excited to see what momentum Mel carries into 2026!
