On November 10th, the love of my life, my best friend, and my soul mate asked me to marry them. They put together 27 envelopes to represent the 26.2 miles of a marathon. Each envelope had a picture with a hand written note to outline our journey up until this point. I am grateful that I have met a human who meets me where I’m at, who pushes me to be the best version of myself, and who inspires me and teaches me new things every day. I say yes to every day with you @mannah_hannah 💜 taken in Iowa by @mel_hamlet

I love this sport. I love my teammates. I love pushing myself to new limits. I love finally piecing together all the knowledge I’ve learned regarding rest, nutrition, recovery. I’m happy to have taken another 68 seconds off of my half marathon PR to run 1:19:39. I’m thankful to have a supportive fiancee @mannah_hannah. I’m happy that the race is called “Mel foster” half marathon and I got to break a tape with my name on it, haha. More to come this fall! Next up, we got @blazingraceproductions blazing 5k, followed by IMT half, and then Indy marathon in November! Gonna keep chipping away at my dream marathon pace - aka OTQ pace (just under 6’s for the marathon) taken in TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon by @mel_hamlet

To the OG 365 party girl @beccmall, we had an excellent time celebrating you at ur Brat Bachelorette Party. This girl knows how to attract some genuine and hilarious people. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. A very brat time was had as we ran, crafted, yoga’d, made a meal at the Ronald McDonald House, watched love island, ate, drank, laughed, and created a plan that will allow the voices of raccoons to be heard and acknowledged. Lives were changed!!! Becca is an incredible gal and I’m excited for her and Conner’s wedding in just a few months 💚🖤 taken in Iowa by @mel_hamlet

June has been a great month! Happens to be my birth month, pride month, and it is the start of summer! @grandmasmarathon provided a great opportunity for a marathon PR. Running has been my oldest and most complicated relationship. I never expected I would reach a place where I’d be well under 3 hours in the marathon. Consistent training and eating enough to sustain that training are key components. Oh, yeah, another small detail - making moves to tackle a life long eating disorder has been quite helpful in improving running times too.

Anyway, here are some June highlights!

PS turns out “happy birthday Mel” looks a lot like “happy birthday me!” When requesting a custom cake. by @mel_hamlet

Completed my second Grandma’s marathon yesterday! I was not clear on a goal when going into this race, and a bit of user error led to me having my watch paused for 3 ish minutes in the first mile (oops). Nothing like running an entire marathon based on vibes, caffeine, and several rounds of vomiting in the second half.. something about those gels, man. The marathon distance keeps me humble and almost anything can happen in that distance. Despite the GI turmoil, I am happy to have run away with a shiny new marathon PR of 2:47:11! This puts me at 29th fastest marathon run by an Iowa woman of all time. I think that’s really cool. OTQ felt more attainable after Indy in the fall, but time will tell.

Hannah created the most amazing sign. I think they did a fantastic job free handing Kris Jenner’s face!! Duluth is a super cute city and has absolutely stunning views of Lake Superior. I might already have a plan to visit Duluth again next summer.. 🤓 taken in Grandma's Marathon - Duluth, Inc. by @mel_hamlet

First dam to dsm in the books and last race before @grandmasmarathon on 6/20! My body felt like garbage coming into this week but I am happy with the effort I was able to put into this race. Im feeling quite fatigued from many weeks of training and I’m ready for that taper.

Also I’m so happy I had my best friend and former college teammate and roommate to cheer me on. Life is a bit better when @n2996 is around. Time for this race was 1:22:30. It felt a little bit harder than I wanted it to but honestly who feels good less than 3 weeks out from a marathon? taken in Des Moines, Iowa by @mel_hamlet

Hannah has graduated with their Masters in Mental Health Counseling! I can’t begin to describe how proud I am. They’re about to make a huge difference in many clients lives!! They will begin a new career here in Iowa City as a counselor. And they got some new letters behind their name - Hannah Mattingly, MS tLMHC.

Also brother Luke was here but we didn’t get a picture with him so the last slide is a picture of Hannah and Luke holding some CFA cows that my mom sent from Georgia 🥳 by @mel_hamlet

Hey yall it’s global running day!! Enjoy some pics that were too good to make it on the grid priorly. I started running at 9 years old. Running has been one of my oldest and most reliable friends. I love that I have gotten to experience this sport through different variations of myself. Y’all take advantage of the day and go on a run!! by @mel_hamlet

New half marathon PR yesterday 👊 also I got second female overall and got the privilege to share the podium with @nubianqueen_rn and @jordandegroot_, both ladies also had very great races on a deceivingly hilly course and with damn near gale force winds. I have a few more races that I’m using to train for @grandmasmarathon in June. That OTQ is quite fast but I am getting faster 😎 taken in Drake Road Races by @mel_hamlet
