POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

hey there!

for those of you who are new around here or haven’t heard my husband and I’s biggest life update is that we moved from Boston to London!

in a few previous posts I have included a very detailed list on how we all made it happen, and now I’m continuing to share our journey of how that process has actually looked.

not only was the visa process a process let me tell you, and there are multiple different visas that can support your move, but also the rental market in London o m g is it insane!

let me know if there’s anything in particular you would like to know, otherwise I hope you’ll enjoy our story of just a couple of lovebirds navigating their dream move abroad and European adventure!

MINI BLOG POST: How we MOVED from Boston to London! Part I

Hey everyone! It’s been a minute, with the holidays and our move to London there hasn’t been much time for anything else.

Many of you wanted me to share how my husband and I went about our move to London- and we’ve had lots of questions! I’ve finally compiled an IN DEPTH checklist to help explain the process.

If you want to move and live abroad, you have to first decide what your employment will look like. My husband was working for a global company in Boston and simply transferred from the Boston to the London office and did so with a skilled worker visa. I had to find a new job entirely, which I did with the help of an agency, and also obtained a skilled worker visa with my employment with the hospital.

It is a lot easier said than done, this move is something we had been planning for over a year. The biggest advice I would have looking back is to allow as much time as you can give to certain items on your checklist, especially since it would have made my visa process much less inexpensive (we essentially had to pay around $875 to have mine expedited). My husband’s visa will let him work for five years, mine will allow only three. Of course there always is the possibility of an extension, but our initial thoughts are to live in London for three to five years.

If you have any questions about moving abroad I’m always happy to help, and let me know what you think! I thought I would include some prices on here as well just for reference for how much we paid through this process.

-Employment, which I touched on above. I think coming from the States it would be much easier to move abroad as a student or with an American or global company which would allow you to have a student or skilled worker visa.

-Complete the UK Visa application online, I needed a verification number of sorts from my employer to be able to apply for the skilled worker visa. I’m assuming if you’re applying as a student the university would provide you with one. I looked at it as it was essentially a confirmation number for the UK that you have a right to live and work because someone was sponsoring you.

NEED TO KNOW MINI BLOG POST: 1 Day in Huacachina from Lima, Peru

Be prepared for a 6 am pick up or earlier from your Lima hotel with PeruHop

You’ll first drive a few hours to Paracas, a very small seaside town where you’ll take a boat ride to Ballestas Islands, very similar to the Galápagos Islands. You’ll get to see lots of wildlife including varieties of birds and sea lions

You’ll then drive another hour or so to Huacachina. You’ll have time to wander around yourselves before heading to meet your group for sand buggy rides

There’s really nothing to see in this small city, there’s maybe one hotel, a few restaurants, and lots tourist shops of course

Be prepared to go fast on the buggys, they actually make you sign a waiver before you ride!

Our guide described it to us like a rollercoaster, but it seemed even more intense than that, it’s not for the faint of heart! I couldn’t even hold my phone to take a video, that’s how intense it was!

They’ll then bring you to some large dunes where you can have a bit of fun…and the sun will start to set and it’s the most incredible view!

The bus will then drive you back to Lima, and it’s about a four hour drive. We didn’t get back to our hotel until almost midnight, but they are coach buses that are quite comfy and make it easy to sleep, I would recommend this day trip for your next visit to Peru!
