Beautiful Mel is one of our regulars, it’s such a joy to see so many of you come back again and again and have the sauna space as your place of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. We got told a story of in our early days of opening - two people met for the first time in the sauna and after their session a friendship had blossomed and they went for lunch together. This is so beautiful! To have this incredible space where people can be together, talk , meet, be quiet, laugh, share. This is everything we wished for WARMTH community sauna in Sheffield. Thanks so much to everyone for coming and making it happen 🫶❤️🔥🍃

CVAN EM is excited to announce that Sutton in Ashfield based artist Meloni Poole has been selected as the recipient of the CVAN EM Bursary for Nottinghamshire! Meloni Poole (@melonipoole) is a multiform artist working across photography, moving image, installation and performance. Interweaving lived experience with diverse voices from the former coalfield community of Sutton in Ashfield where she grew up, her work reimagines narratives of grief and loss. Exploring the body and what it means to be in a body, Meloni has trained in Japanese sword for over ten years; it transformed her life following a family tragedy. She Samurai is a visual performance and meditation on the shapeshifting power of sword, as it becomes one’s spine, gives courage and resilience. The bursary will enable Meloni to research and develop a performance and moving-image piece which explores new methods of making that cross fertilizes + embodies her Samurai sword practice with contemporary Butoh performance. The bursary supports new skills+collaboration, working with costume designer Sil Devilly (@sil.devilly) to design and construct a shamanic crow-crone costume to be worn in the moving image performance. Reclaiming the crone, She Samurai seeks to conjure up the magical inner worlds of midlife women to come out of the shadows reclaim their potency and agency. ID: 1) an elderly male in a suit holding up a@microphone, in the foreground are pink flowers; 2) a lone woman seated in front of a wedding portrait; 3) a women with pulled back hair holds up a sword, to the right a feminine crow-like figure is surrounded by fire and forest. 📸 1: This Charming Man: Documentary about my father, an ex-coalminer turned inventor of the horse jacuzzi. Commission: British Film Institute and Channel 4; 2: Don’t Put Your Shoes on the Table: Video installation, bandaged room, table, chairs & shoes. Commission: National Review of Live Art, CCA, Glasgow; & 3: She Samurai: Martial arts and contemporary performance piece.

💥 STILL WE RISE 💥 Today I celebrate all of us: those out there fighting for a better world, those struggling to get by, those writing the words to help us imagine the future, those coping with grief and heartbreak, those visioning a world where equality is a solid rock we walk across every day rather than a tantalising dream. I celebrate the fact we stand on the shoulders of all the fighters who have come before us, who wouldn’t take no for an answer. Still so much to do, but much to be acknowledged. I #choosetochallenge the male medical model that often doesn’t listen to women, especially when it comes to #menopause , and celebrate all the women out there working to change this. #iwd2021

What a day. My first @lights.camera.power workshop. Panavision has never had so many women under its roof in one sitting - that is a fact. Thank you to @adrianogoldman @stu_bentley & @the_rinayang for inspiring this wonderful group of female directors, to Phoebe Fraser for her post-production talk, to @katkamera & Fran Weston for their tech support and to @george_rumsey for making it possible. The day was everything I’d hoped it would be and more. Bring on the next one. 📸 by @ledgerlomas
