“I knew from the moment I heard his first song that his voice was something special. He sang from his soul, and I play drums from mine. From that moment, I allowed myself to dream… and that dream came true.” Alum Micheál Quinn (2012 BMus) recalls the impact of hearing his then classmate, and now globally famous Irish singer and songwriter Dermot Kennedy, perform one of his own songs. Cairde Amharclann na Saoirse, in Éirinn are absolutley delighted that Dunny will perform as part of Seachtain Saoirse don Phalaistín on Friday 30th January 7.30pm. Dunny is Donnacha O’Malley, one of the founding members of Dublin-based experimental band Meltybrains? His 3-piece band, featuring Des Garvey and Jack McGarry, plays a laid back blend of psychedelic folk and fuzzy electronic textures, sprinkled with a quirky pop sensibility. Audience members have drawn comparisons ranging from Arthur Russell and Robert Wyatt to early Supertramp and The Smiths. Dunny’s debut album Schtum came out in November 2024. Friday 30th January 2026 7.30pm Project Arts Centre Space Upstairs ✨🖇️In bio Dunny will perform as part of our event with writer and director, Ahmed Masoud, 'A Critical Conversation on Active Resistance' in conversation with playwright, actor and activist Donal O'Kelly. This event brings artists, audiences, and activists together into collective conversation about freedom, occupation, cultural resistance, and what active resistance means in this moment. We're really looking forward to this evening, bringing Palestinian and Irish artists together at Project Arts Centre Space Upstairs. Haven't been on this for the last few weeks, so doing a belated retrospective post to herald the New Year. Overall, 2025 was a good year - made it into a book, worked in a studio, went on strike, did a load of gigs, wore a couple of suits, wrote a lot of music, went to some hurling matches and had a nice life. When I see the challenges that other people face everyday, it makes me remember how very lucky I am to live the life I have. Hopefully 2026 will see more of the same. Resolutions: 1. Be more me 2. Be more of a help to others and be generally more social 3. Remember that fear is not a good source of motivation Love, Brian

Goodbye 2025! As a matter of fact Goodbye last 5 years!! It's been a lot! I'm sure most of us will be trying to process WTF Happened and where did the time go?? It's been a serious journey and it's far from over... 3 trips to the surgery table. In & out of hospitals. Anemia & Fibroids ruled any and all movements. Constant pain, heavy bleeding, and fatigue from losing so much blood. After numerous procedures, I ended up getting a full hysterectomy in February. I can't say that I'm completely happy with the decision. But I can say that I am alive and my health is much better overall. Which I am happy about. 😊 I have noticed that since the surgery, my eyesight & memory have gotten worse. You thought I couldn't remember names, events, quotes before... no hope these days. Do bare with me! And I apologise if we've meet 100 times. 🫣 Since the surgery, I've been able to move in a way that I didn't ever think I would be. And can wear bright coloured dresses, pants, skirts again without worrying about blood soiling them. (TMI ) 🥲 I honesty have still had the privilege of working with some of the most amazing DJs, Producers, Promoters, Crews, Clubs, Bars, Festivals, Yoga establishments and all around sounders who have come to my gigs & have booked me! And I live with the best housemates! 🏠 I HONESTLY CAN NOT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! YOUR LOVE AND YOUR SUPPORT! I LOVE YOU ALL AND I WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO! 🙏🏼 HAPPY, PROSPEROUS & WONDERFUL 2026 BEAUTIFUL BEINGS!! HERE'S TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE! 💖🥂💖✨️💖🥳💖🥰💖

And, just like that, our run of Meltybrains? 'This-Topia' shows is over. Twas a pretty big endeavour over the last few months, but I'm proud of the work that we put in to turn a bunch of vague ideas about our surveillance society, the negative impacts of our relationship with modern technology, rampant consumerism and modern political divisions, into some kind of cohesive gig. Thanks to all of the people who came to one of the nights of the run - hopefully the themes of the show will inspire people to make art, and also provoke thought. Even if the show never comes back, that in itself, will signify a job well done. Thanks as well to all of the people involved - all the Melty lads, Katie, Ross, Jessie, Saoirse, Olan, Caoimhe, Nick, Aimee, Alannah, Lewis, Cian, Mark, everyone at the festivals and venues and everyone who helped us out with rehearsal space and equipment. Getting ready for a period of hibernation but looking forward to making lots of music and trying to make something meaningful, in this confusing world of ours. Buzz me! 3. Are you looking for my art/culture philosophy account? ☞ @vnaine I went to a temp job with no idea what to expect. To my surprise, I stumbled upon the Irish band Meltybrains(?) But that so-called coincidence felt suspiciously algorithmic — it was exactly the vibe I needed that night. What could have been a tough shift turned into something absolutely brilliant! The band is experimental, psychedelic, wildly performative and interactive. And on top of that, they’re genuinely sound people. Right from the start, they handed out tees to the whole work crew and announced they were selling vinyl. I couldn’t feckin’ resist: I bought mine, got a mask thrown in, and even hunted down each autograph — including from @jessiethompson__ the dancer, who lifted the show to another level. It became a contemporary, interactive performance where not only the music mattered, but also the dance, the masks, the towering screens — simulating our modern life, immersed in the abyss of social media, all delivered with sharp n critical humour!
