Mr Melty had no intention of having to come back to earth right now. But he’s been disturbed from his thousand year sleep cycle and has some business to attend to now. Please, take care, Mr Melty is on his way with something to say 🎭 by @meltybrains

“I knew from the moment I heard his first song that his voice was something special. He sang from his soul, and I play drums from mine. From that moment, I allowed myself to dream… and that dream came true.” Alum Micheál Quinn (2012 BMus) recalls the impact of hearing his then classmate, and now globally famous Irish singer and songwriter Dermot Kennedy, perform one of his own songs.

As fellow grad Dermot Kennedy’s drummer, a founding member of Meltybrains?, and a musician in many other successful bands, Micheál has turned instinct and creativity into sold-out stages and a thriving music career.

Read Micheál’s full profile in The Bridge 2026 now mu.ie/thebridge2026

Cairde Amharclann na Saoirse, in Éirinn are absolutley delighted that Dunny will perform as part of Seachtain Saoirse don Phalaistín on Friday 30th January 7.30pm.

Dunny is Donnacha O’Malley, one of the founding members of Dublin-based experimental band Meltybrains? His 3-piece band, featuring Des Garvey and Jack McGarry, plays a laid back blend of psychedelic folk and fuzzy electronic textures, sprinkled with a quirky pop sensibility. Audience members have drawn comparisons ranging from Arthur Russell and Robert Wyatt to early Supertramp and The Smiths. Dunny’s debut album Schtum came out in November 2024.

Dunny will perform as part of our event with writer and director, Ahmed Masoud, 'A Critical Conversation on Active Resistance' in conversation with playwright, actor and activist Donal O'Kelly. This event brings artists, audiences, and activists together into collective conversation about freedom, occupation, cultural resistance, and what active resistance means in this moment.

We're really looking forward to this evening, bringing Palestinian and Irish artists together at Project Arts Centre Space Upstairs. The audience are invited to share food afterwards in the Upstairs Foyer to continue the conversation with these incredible artists.
You don't want to miss this.

A week later and we are still blown away by all the messages, photos and videos from THIS-TOPIA. Thank you so so much to everyone who came to figure out the fault in our system.

Here’s a little bit of what we did when we weren’t on stage

I went to a temp job with no idea what to expect. To my surprise, I stumbled upon the Irish band Meltybrains(?) But that so-called coincidence felt suspiciously algorithmic — it was exactly the vibe I needed that night. What could have been a tough shift turned into something absolutely brilliant!

The band is experimental, psychedelic, wildly performative and interactive. And on top of that, they’re genuinely sound people. Right from the start, they handed out tees to the whole work crew and announced they were selling vinyl. I couldn’t feckin’ resist: I bought mine, got a mask thrown in, and even hunted down each autograph — including from @jessiethompson__ the dancer, who lifted the show to another level. It became a contemporary, interactive performance where not only the music mattered, but also the dance, the masks, the towering screens — simulating our modern life, immersed in the abyss of social media, all delivered with sharp n critical humour!

To top it all off, I had the pleasure of going to the pub with the band and having a quick chat with some of them, especially the violinist @jrspesh. ☞ This video is my way of saying thanks for the vibe!

Still coming back to earth after an inspiring and affirming week in Cork for Sounds From A Safe Harbour. I feel really privileged to have had a chance to play music and spend time with so many good people, so many friends, old and new.

There were many highlights over the weekend, including Meltybrains? show at the Granary Theatre, my impromptu piano pop-up gig in Coughlans and the many free pints of Beamish in the River Lee Hotel, but the stand-out moment was undoubtedly the Talos Memorial show in the Cork Opera House.
It meant a lot to have the chance to play those songs again and it was extremely special to be able to do it for Eoin, and for so many people that loved and respected him.

Thanks to everyone at Sounds From A Safe Harbour for having me down and looking after me, especially @hicksonmary but also @rebecca_roche @caoiliansherlock Fionn, Sandra, Camilla and everyone else who I don't have on Instagram.

Love, Brian

We are bringing our faulty system to Dublin this weekend because Cork couldn’t fix it. Mícheal is very tired. Share this post and tag someone to maybe win some free tickets.

There was a glitch in the system during rehearsal. There was not a glitch in the system during rehearsal. There’s a fault in our system, it was all Kilkenny’s fault. The fault in the system is about to be Cork’s fault. You have been summoned
