On Mondays, I take the train to cross half of Belgium and go teach. I used to think these hours of commuting were wasted, but I kinda learned to like them. I listen to horse podcasts, read books or just quietly stare out the window in half meditation. Enjoying (instead of resisting) the space of empty time I have. As horse owners we always have something to do around the stables, right? Be that mucking out, fixing stuff that is broken, cleaning tack, god forbid maybe even train a horse in winter, let alone four 😅. I used to be running all - the - time. Now I am trying to learn not to. Letting go of the idea of perpetual productivity, and being okay with doing nothing. Connection. Such a truly beautiful, yet elusive idea. Most of us strive for connection with our horses, by means that are sometimes so utterly different. I am not one to say a certain method is better than another. Horses are complicated, individual beings, as are we as their humans. For each of us, each of them, for each coming together of a human and a horse, a unique path may be sought after. For me, it took a while to be comfortable doing “my own thing”. Being independent and confident enough to put aside what I was told to do with my horse and instead follow what I felt was right for me and him. Rather than thinking “outside the box”, I believe now it is best to abolish the very idea of boxes in itself. Develop a broad set of tools, techniques, methods. Learn about horse behavior. Educate yourself and create an informed but open mind. Try out different things. And then trust your feel, and breathe. Find that connection. I might have gotten faster where I am now, or I might have been more advanced. But that’s okay. I like where I am at and I like where I am going. Connecting with my horse through liberty work. Our common ground. Where @memoiresdeflorephotography captured us last summer. Where do you guys find connection with your horses?

Not doing much and that’s okay! Today, I managed to ride Háfeta, and that’s it 🤷🏻‍♀️ somehow the day flew by, doing nothing much. Stables needed cleaning, I spent an hour trying to photograph the pigs for our annual christmas greeting card (hopeless getting a pig to pose and I should have known it 😅) and then it was pretty much dark already. Ah well. Sometimes we should allow ourselves to be rather unproductive I guess. Coming week the weather should be less wet than last week, so I hope to get some more training done with Lewis, maybe squeeze in a little trailride with Ecoline. Let’s see!

Luckiest girl in the world. . . Who else than the brilliant @memoiresdeflorephotography to capture that sheer luck in a series of beautiful portraits. Sweet Ecoline. So easy and good natured that you can let her loose while taking pictures with Briseïs ;) she’ll just stay closeby, looking for a nice piece of grass. Always trustworthy this one. She comes from a long line of riding ponies known for their great character. Good breeding makes for happy owners! Credits go to: @memoiresdeflorephotography

My shoulders hurt, my feet are frozen and my hands are cracked up from being so dry. My one finger is pretty bruised, the nail is already turning blue-ish. I’ve just spent the past three days building my new stable together with my father-in-law. We’ll do everything by hand. From the foundation up to the roof, each door and wall crafted in wood. I’m not used to this work. I mean… I’m an academic and a university lecturer (most of the time). Yet I strongly believe in the idea of a “homo universalis”, or at least some modest form of it 😁. Get in touch with physical work if you’re focused on your mind, and vice versa. It’s not always fun. You’ll swear on stuff that seems so easy but goes wrong in your inexperienced hands. You’ll wonder. Try out and err. Only to come to a conclusion that is obvious to a professional. Yet after a while you’ll get there. And then it will bring you pride and joy, alongside the pain. Of being able to actually build something, of your own. So here we go, building my stable, 120square metres of pony girl dreams come true.

BEWUSTWORDINGSPROCES

A story about Lizzy and me.

⭐️intentie "rust en genieten, go with the flow"

Let me know🥰

My Boy, My Hero, My King...✨

MY TEAM.✨

Lizzy haar favoriete dingen
⭐️ academische/klassieke rijkunst, she got the moves voor het correcte dressuurwerk
