Sometimes creating what’s next isn’t about fighting what is, it’s about finding the opening. ✨

In this episode of Soul Stories with Jill, Mena Teijeiro shares her journey from life in Miami to creating The Florrest, a 153-acre leadership sanctuary in rural Georgia.

Through unexpected change, resistance, and plenty of unknowns, Mena discovered a powerful philosophy she calls “Breathing Through the Cracks” reclaiming the energy we spend fighting what we can’t change and using it to create what’s calling us forward.

🎙️ Breathing Through the Cracks: Creating What’s Next Without Fighting What Is

Listen now and discover what can happen when you stop trying to break through the wall, and start looking for the crack.

I never thought I would leave The Florrest for so long.

I left with a return ticket that could be changed easily without a fee, I had redeemed miles.

That small act, instead of paying for my return, changed the course of my summer.

It opened it up for life to happen beyond a formal decision.

It wasn’t just me being in another place.

It was a distancing that allowed me to have a new relationship with myself and the land, and let me notice how beautifully supported I am with the team at the property and welcomed by community in Miami.

As I come back...

Nestling into my body and soul, to listen deeply within.

Contrast lets us perceive and appreciate the qualities of each place.

The two months I spent away were a gift. I lived the village life, walking everywhere, surrounded by family and friends, working in my own flow, and gathering for so many special occasions. Yes, there was the World Cup too.

Basking in the energy of the woods yesterday, I noticed how the vastness of this land does something different.

It doesn’t let myself project into an ocean at the horizon, or be looking up into the distance to be in awe of a mountain or a building, or get pulled by the ways of the place. The rhythm of the day is not set by external structures and meeting times.

It lets me feel that I am at the center of my breath and awareness.

In the way each tree feels centered, grounded, and aiming for the light.

In how each bird is in the moment, intuitively dancing through the air and swooping down for that bite (or peck?).

At the edge of the night, I stood under the dark swirling clouds backlit by lightning. I danced and sang, as the sky shared its orchestration from above.

Wow.

The most ordinary becomes extraordinary when we can still our mind, be present, and connect from a space of witnessing.

It’s good to be hOMe.

I’m lit.

This is where it starts getting really exciting.

Looking forward to sharing this journey with you.

Does the FIFA World Cup REALLY unite the world?

I think it’s more accurate to say...

It gathers the world.

Packed stadiums. Record-breaking audiences. Fan festivals. Overflowing streets. Conversations happening across every continent.

The world has gathered.

Whether it unites or divides us is another story.

One that reveals something much deeper.

It reveals us.

Qué vemos? 👀

I’ve watched families come together. Strangers celebrate together. Children dream bigger. Countries many had never heard of become part of everyday conversations.

I’ve also watched people become attached to outcomes. Online hostility increase. Identity becomes tied to winning and losing. Attention pulled away from our own lives.

Perhaps the World Cup doesn’t unite us.

Perhaps it doesn’t divide us either.

Perhaps it simply magnifies what’s already within us.

One final week remains.
You are a player in this global gathering.

What does playing your game look like this week?

Vamos Argentina!!! 🇦🇷🙌🏼💫

I was going to post this just before the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

I’ve been holding everyone affected in my prayers, whispering messages of hope, and imagining them surrounded by support and a brighter future. I’m deeply grateful for every person and organization showing up to help and to gather others to do so too.

Moments like these remind me how precious life is, how much better we are together, and how committed I am to tending my own light - not from fear, nor from needing to fix the world - but from my love of LIFE.

This past month has been a beautiful reminder of what matters most.

My parents came to visit The Florrest, and after just a few days surrounded by nature, they shared how peaceful it felt and that they want to visit more often.

Then I spent time in Washington, DC with my boys (who I don’t live with) at my sister’s home, creating more memories together.

Now we’ve been with more family in Miami, sharing meals, laughter, play, stories, and the excitement of watching the World Cup together. It reminded me how beautiful village life can feel, wherever we go, there is community, love, and support.

Throughout these moments, immersed in life, relationships, and my work, I’ve become even clearer about who I want to be, how I want to live, and who I feel called to serve.

It reinforced that the greatest treasures aren’t things. They’re the people we love, the memories we create, and who we become through life’s experiences.

Lately I’ve also been reflecting on something else... (cont. in comments)

People do not speak enough about this.

In my own journey as a mother, I have learned there is the mothering most people recognize first: the doing, tending, protecting, providing, organizing, and showing up in visible ways.

That is the more masculine expression of mothering.

There is also the feminine quality of the mother: presence, availability, patience, receiving, modeling, nurturing love, and the steady field that does not need to control in order to remain connected.

Until my boys were thirteen and eleven, I was fully in both.

I was doing, protecting, providing, guiding, and creating home.

Then life changed.

The visible shape of my mothering changed.

I had to learn to let go in ways I never imagined.

I did not want my boys pulled into a battlefield.

I did not want their love to become something they had to prove, defend, or split.

So I chose restraint.

I chose trust.

I chose to keep loving without making them carry what was not theirs to carry.

But the bond did not break.

What grew in me was the feminine aspect of mothering from afar: presence, availability, patience, guidance, trust, and love without control.

The mind may measure motherhood by proximity.

But the womb knows. The heart knows. The field knows.

The bond is unbreakable.

Yesterday, I mothered myself through both aspects.

First, I held myself in the feminine. I felt my feelings around my children, my mother, and myself. I let myself be tender and receive what was moving through me.

Then I moved into the masculine. I prepared food for the week, did laundry, tended my closet, watered plants, put my hands in the earth, and connected with my children, my mother, my friends, and life.

I thought about my own mother too.

Her devotion to family has always been one of the strongest forces in her life. We are different women, shaped by different generations and expectations. Underneath all of it, I know what holds us.

Love.

The willingness to lean in. To forgive. To talk. To repair.

Today I honor my mother, my children, and the mother I became.

A devoted one.

A mother creating a life of freedom where love is not threatened.

I just came back from days filled with family, celebrations, and constant connection.

It reminded me of something most people don’t talk about…

The places where we feel the most love
are often the same places that challenge us the most.

Family holds history. Patterns. Expectations.

It can bring up reactions that don’t show up anywhere else.

There was a time when I needed space,
not to disconnect, but to come back to myself.

Not as a reaction, but as a move toward what felt true for me.

Being back in those same environments now, I notice something different.

I can stay connected without losing my center.

To be with what’s there without reacting, without collapsing, without needing to change anyone else.

Just choosing how I show up over and over again.

What I teach now comes from having lived this and from knowing what was missing when I needed it most.

Returning to your own light💫

Most of my clients are not lacking power.

They are powerful people living in environments that cannot hold them.

They are the lion who learned to soften their roar, not because they are weak. But because they are perceptive.

They feel everything. They read the room. They adapt.

And slowly they begin to forget what it feels like to fully be.

What they think they need is more success, more visibility, more recognition.

But when we go deeper that is not it.

They don’t want to be on display.
They don’t want to perform their life.

They want space.

Space to walk freely, to love deeply, to tend to what matters, to be with their people without being consumed by the gaze of others.

They want a life that is their own.

Not a life that looks powerful but a life that feels true.

Mastery, for me, has never been about accumulation.

It is about self leadership.

Knowing who you are. Protecting what is sacred. Choosing what you grow. Walking away from what depletes.

They stop negotiating with what is not in alignment. They don’t go to battle with the old. They don’t try to prove or convince.

They choose themselves. And in doing so
their environment begins to change, allowing the fruits to come from that alignment.

There is a quiet beauty in this.

An ordinariness that is anything but ordinary.

A life where you are so connected
to yourself that you no longer need
the world to confirm you.

And from that place love changes. The Lover is no longer longing. There is no sorrow.

Because you are no longer waiting to be chosen.

You are already in communion with yourself. From there you begin to meet others who can meet you in that same depth.

I work with people who carry a lot for others and are ready to return to their center so they can live and lead from overflow.

This image is from August 21, 2021. Back then, I held this in my heart.

Now, I have the sanctuary and the systems to invite others into it.

Happy Spring Equinox!

A new cycle begins. I am stepping more fully into who I am.
