I made a variation on a #kismettop @criswoodsews out of a fleecy blanket.
A variation because the blanket is not as stretchy as required but I saw this as an opportunity to 'mend' the gap in the waistband adding a pop of colour in the form of some shocking pink sweatshirt ribbing.
It's so cosy.
Rudy the pinscher thinks it is his blanket.
Still need to hem the neckline...I think I'll blanket stitch it with some thread recuperated from the edge of the blanket...

My husband’s gloves have seen better days, but today I have darned moth holes and repaired fingers with a mixture of Swiss darning, crochet, blanket stitch and weaving: my #MendsDay mending. He had suggested turning them into fingerless gloves in order to provide both warmth and dexterity. I haven’t removed all the fingers pending some actual wear to see whether these fingers are “necessary”.

I got my #MondayMending in early so that I could wear this cardigan today. I’ve added further darns to the elbows and repaired several other spots. I made a conscious decision years ago to mend in black as I had no matching green thread of any sort.

You could swipe to see that I was also wearing my mended refashioned jeans jacket, layered over a mended gilet; the cardigan is underneath.

Further swiping will provide evidence of a family outing to Farleigh Hungerford Castle where one visitor wears navy rtw trousers dyed navy by way of mending, another wears a mum made dress and a third shows of his mended jumper.

There’s some history too for those who might ask questions 😉

#mondaymending When we recently visited Student Son, FriendF asked if I could do anything about her joggers: the back pocket had come unstitched at the bottom, the elasticated hem had worn through and the white trim had detached itself at the waistband.
I was sure I could do ‘something’.
The hem was unpicked, the worn hole was stuck back together with interfacing on the inside and machine darning on the outside, the frayed elastic was replaced and the hem reattached. I figured that the slight shortening incurred by closing up the hole would actually prevent it being trodden on again in the future.
The pocket and trim were stitched back into place by machine and by hand respectively.
Now returned and wearable once again.

Happy International Repair day!
What have you been mending?
I found a hole in one of my socks and thought I'd use it as an opportunity to experiment with the 'Dictionary of Color Combinations'.

A tricky mend on my bench this International Repair Day.

This baby changing bag needs some hefty repairs - ahead of a precious new arrival in January!

Repairing what we own rather than buying new is an act of resistance in our throwaway society.

According to WRAP, nearly half of all used textiles in the UK end up in the bin. We can do better than that.

Get in touch if you have something that needs repairing.

Done up you cannot tell that I have done my #MendsDay mending, but you could scroll to unwind the work @VisibleMend @MendsAndFriends.

You could also find yesterday’s student’s work, top stitching her shirt cuffs and hemming. She’s now reviewing buttons.

I may yet add more stitches to the binding to try and make it look less fuzzy, but the dog toy is looking considerably better than it did. Although I did the additional work yesterday evening, I’m posting it for #MondayMending @MendsAndFriends as today has mostly been about getting home 🚘

Swipe through for the before pictures (posted last Monday with the first tranche of repairs).

#mondaymending I heard it ‘go’ as I reached across to turn off the bedside light. The underarm of my night/tee shirt had ripped.
Fortunately I had already saved a suitable patch of white cotton jersey when I repaired the underarm on the other side. It was pinned and stitched to the inside and then the hole edges on the outside were stitched to the new patch. Not very visible from the outside and looking a bit like a vintage dress shield on the inside!

First official cafe mend!💀🩵💙
A suitably spooky seasonal patch (courtesy of @duchofwez) to hide a stain from god knows what on a new tshirt - natch🙄
Happy to have made it here even tho it did turn out to be an endo day😖(have hot water bottle - will travel)
And good to meet some of the menders, and menders-to-be of Ktown. Might even be back next weekend…who’s in for the 17th?!

Time out from end of year accounts to sit in the glorious October sun and patch up a very old @surfersagainstsewage t-shirt. Both armpits now sporting colourful patches and there was the opportunity for a couple of porthole mends too!

(If you fancy jazzing up your armpits remember I take mending commissions 😉)
