ABCT 2025 was one for the ages!

I presented a paper presentation and chaired my first symposium, contributing my ongoing research regarding racial discrimination, racial trauma, and mental health among Black Americans while collaborating with a stellar team of scholar activists. I made many new connections, and reconnected with several other colleagues.

This was a conference experience I won’t soon forget.

Division 45 was a great success! Definitely one of my favorite conferences to date.

I had the opportunity to listen to some amazing discussions, see what great work is being done across the country, and fellowship with some great people.

📢 New research alert!

“The Moderating Role of Alexithymia in the Relationship Between Racial Trauma and Negative Emotionality Among Black Adults" is now published!

Congratulations to Morgan Phillips @mentalhealthwithmo for her first, first-authored publication!

📚 Culturally-informed science is essential to Black mental health.

To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine how alexithymia—difficulty identifying and describing emotions—shapes the impact of racial trauma for Black American adults.

The takeaway? When emotional expression is blocked, the weight of racial trauma can hit even harder.

Therapists: assessing racial trauma and alexithymia must be part of the treatment plan.
