I'm a singer songwriter, one half of The Jazzyfatnastees. Living, loving and learning in LA. Working on my first solo project and raising my son.

From the Reelblack Vault. Circa February 2002. A young Adam Blackstone Curt Chambers Ben Kenney and Aaron Draper rehearsing with Philly’s own Jazzyfatnastees at Larry Gold’s Studio. Dug these photos out of the archives and thought they were worth sharing. Hard to believe it’s been nearly 25 years.

From founding The Jazzyfatnastees and helping pioneer Philly’s neo-soul movement to stepping into full creative control, Merce is turning her expansive musical history inward with her debut solo album, ALIVE. ✨🌹

We spoke with the singer, songwriter, and producer about her transformative new record, her roots co-building Black Lily alongside legends like The Roots and Stevie Wonder, and the deep personal journey behind her lead single, "My Guy."

Written in the wake of profound personal loss while raising her son, ALIVE traces a path through grief, resilience, and self-definition. Created alongside Rick Friedrich and Kush Oxford, the project blends acoustic warmth with electronic textures to deliver a message rooted in hope and curiosity. What began in "My Guy" as a song about a partner evolved into a powerful affirmation of trusting your destined path and letting go of what isn't meant for you.

"Making music was my coping method and my saving grace," Merce shares. "Going through hard things made me a better, braver artist... Life without hope isn’t really living."
