Still trying to find the words for what God did in Charleston this weekend. 🤍

@bravecharleston was something special.

Hundreds of women gathering (in-person + online!) to worship, open Scripture, have honest conversations about fear, and consider what it actually looks like to live courageously with Jesus.

And one of my favorite things? We weren’t just talking about bravery. We were being invited to practice it.

I had the incredible privilege of joining the Courage + Culture panel, where we talked about something I care so deeply about: the courage it takes to pursue biblical unity in a culture that seems determined to divide us.

Because sometimes bravery looks like stepping into something new.

But sometimes it looks like staying at the table. Listening when it would be easier to walk away. Loving someone whose story, perspective, or experience looks nothing like our own.

Unity doesn’t require us to pretend our differences don’t exist. It asks us to remember that what we share in Christ is greater than what threatens to divide us.

I loved that Jess and her team made room for those women to simply receive.

And @jessaconnolly. My dear friend. Watching you walk in obedience to what God placed on your heart, and seeing so many women gathered around that vision, was such a gift. I am so proud of you and so grateful I got to be a tiny part of it.

I’m leaving Charleston deeply encouraged by what God is doing in and through women who are willing to say yes, even when they’re scared.

And maybe that’s what I’ll remember most.

Courage isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s simply choosing to love, to stay, to listen, and to obey.

I got the honor of gathering with some of my favorite women in ministry @bravecharleston this past weekend.

When @jessaconnolly writes a book on being brave, it’s not just a moment, she starts a movement! And we got a front row seat at seeing her be brave and she called us to be brave, along with 550 women from all over America.

Why? Because courage is contagious. We walked in feeling scared, but we left brave. 🙌🏽

#womensministry there’s nothing like it.
The sounds, the smells, the hugs, the tears, the fellowship…the worship and earnest prayers.

This past week was a place where competition and comparison had no place and encouragement ran wiiiild.

This is the good stuff about women’s ministry.
This is when God gets the glory.
When sisterhood becomes an honest exchange and satan is named for the scrub that he is.

“Satan is a scrub, and as the song says, we don’t want no scrub.” @mereknox

We’re too busy building each other up,
sharing each others books and businesses,
praying over children and cancer treatments, and
bowing on our knees to submit to the Father and whatever He wants in the minutes and years ahead.

Lord, you are worthy of ALL our praise and submission.
You are the creator of this kind of Kingdom kinship.

And before the enemy makes you doubt that you belong, know that this table extends indefinitely and is not just for those who the world deems “an influencer”.

We don’t have time for such nonsense.
And it is just that, nonsense.

All are welcomed to pursue relationship and deep flourishing for our families, friends, and churches.

Over these 3 days of @bravecharleston with @goandtellgals I noticed something that endeared me to @jessaconnolly ‘s heart… while she could have been, she was not the spotlight. No *one* woman was. It was a masterclass in mic passing. She’s obsessed with people being seen, and that is my passion too.

I was floored by what she intentionally platformed and how freely she let a wide diversity of women share how God is moving in their lives across the country and the globe.

I’ve never been to a women’s ministry event like it—- and I’ve been to *literally* hundreds.

Well done, Jess and @goandtellgals team. Well done.

This is probably my personal favorite photo from @bravecharleston, because if you zoom in you can see my face. This is the face I made as I listened to @jessaconnolly, @debhopper, @hosanna.wong and @pricelispd. It’s also the face I made as I worshipped alongside each of the women in this photo, who I love with my whole heart. This face captures the genuine delight and awe and cruciform transformation I experienced this weekend.

All because my friend said a costly yes to God.

I rarely, if ever, talk about how lonely it can be as a female speaking pastor who doesn’t often get to be with other women that are doing the same.

So I want to share a few moments from the @bravecharleston conference that deposited glimmers of hope in my heart:

1) After @sharonhmiller spoke a really empowering word, she told me “I was thinking about all of you ladies on the front row when I was preparing. I really wanted it to encourage you guys specifically.”

What a gift. A gift of Sharon’s to communicate in such a way that every woman in the room would walk away hearing a word they needed. What a gift to us, her ministry leader friends, that she would ask God to speak to us specifically. (And there we are, locked in, taking notes.)

2) The very first word @cherylluke spoke to me before I could even introduce myself was “STRENGTH.” After a few days together (which was not enough time!) she again called out the power she felt flowing through me when I picked up the microphone to shepherd some women on Saturday morning. It was prophetic and confirmational in a way that I am still processing.

3) I got this text from @amyseiffert between services on Sunday morning and I felt seen in a way I hadn’t before.

4) Just look at these beautiful women. Not competing. Not excluding. Just leading in their lanes with outstretched hands for the other women God has given the same gifts and call to.

Grateful and honored to go and tell the world about Jesus alongside each of you!

If I had to tell you one thing about the Brave conference? @bravecharleston

I watched @jessaconnolly pass the mic to over 25 women. At least. All different shapes + sizes + backgrounds + personalities + colors + point of views.

One thing in common: The resurrected Jesus.

That alone is the beauty of the body of Christ. One body. So many needed parts.

A few words I’ll be taking with me: “Bravery is about choosing generous hands. It’s about other people. It’s about rejecting a hierarchy of dignity.” - @pricelispd

“John 21 rewrites the story for women. Eve listens to the voice of the enemy, but Mary listens to the voice of Jesus.” - @sharonhmiller

“Who are you becoming in the waiting room?” - @debhopper

“Satan is a scrub. And as we know, we don’t want no scrubs.” - @mereknox

“Jesus didn’t correct Martha’s work, He corrected her worry.” - @hosanna.wong

“Jesus disappointed people even though he was perfect.” - @jessaconnolly

Two days after I launched my book, I hopped in the car and drove 8 hours to Charleston to be at @bravecharleston.

Why would I do such a thing? Because I believe deeply in the work @jessaconnolly + @goandtellgals are doing for God’s Kingdom. And I knew I wanted to be in a room learning under some of the best preachers and communicators in the world.

The Holy Spirit moved. Women experienced freedom. And we all left feeling more brave and ready for what God has for us.

We repented. We worshipped. We laughed. We cried. And we also ate tacos and laughed until we cried.

What an honor to learn from these women and watch how they love and serve God. I’m closer to Him because of it. I want more of Him after being with them. And I’m more excited than ever to see what He will do for His daughters.

Leaving BRAVE reminded that courage doesn’t mean the fear is gone.

Sometimes brave is being afraid and going anyway.

Fear and great joy. Both can come with you. ❤️
