“i’m just a lonely boy sitting alone
i don’t know what to do
i don’t know what to say
because i’m thinking of you”

a return to the wayward world of k. leimer with “lonely boy,” from the 2014 archival compilation, a period of review 🍳

operating in the underground music scene of the 1970s pacific northwest, self-educated savant k. leimer crafted hypnotic, hushed sound-worlds using a versatile collection of tape machines and inexpensive pawnshop instruments. informed by a delightfully vibrant array of influences — from krautrock giants to the dadaist movement — leimer’s diverse loop-based, often generative compositions unfold with a cooly composed stoicism, at once glacial and gorgeous

directed by ben schechter (@weirddays) and tony lowe (@rainstick_/), the “lonely boy” video features will berman / @meshkimono in a color saturated, kitschy kitchen, toying with a cornucopia of off-kilter culinary delights. captured in an abundance of superimposed sequences, berman’s appearance came at the request of a certain proprietor of rvng, who thought he resembled the young leimer on the cover of a period of review

“Big City” is now available worldwide.

Despite being present in every single setlist of our live shows, it took some time for us to finally decide to record it. We kind of considered that it only belonged in a live-show scenario.

Nonetheless, we started laying down tracks for this song in borrowed time from recording sessions for other songs. Mostly because we had so much fun playing it, it was a good way to jam before a recording session.

That is how we recorded it: between different sessions and on various occasions.

At some point, we figured out that everything was already there, and it sounded great, with the energy of our live performances intact.

We just needed to mix it. That is when our dear friend Will Berman comes in. We stumbled upon him on a very random Tuesday night that started at Hotel Amour in Paris and was followed by even more random events.

A couple of years later, in NYC, we told Will that we had recorded this song, and soon after that late-night conversation, the planets aligned. It made perfect sense for him to do it: after all, his band, MGMT, inspired us so much and definitely helped shape our sound. It was only logical that he would end up mixing it.

He created the final version of the track and made it sound the way we had always imagined it should.
Enjoy!
