Three courses. Three cultures. One incredible experience. 🖤🍷🎥

An evening celebrating the African diaspora through cuisine and storytelling. AMAZING food, thoughtfully paired wines, great conversations, and an atmosphere that made the entire night feel special.

Huge thank you to the Colorado Black Arts Festival and to Uncorked Kitchen & Wine Bar for creating the perfect setting for it all.

I came to tell the story through my lens, but definitely left with a few memories of my own.

More to come… 🎬

A new addition is taking shape along East Colfax!

The Havana Street BRT station arch is officially up, marking an exciting step forward for the future station. And there’s more to come! Art in Public Places will bring public art to the station canopy as the project continues to take shape.

We’re looking forward to seeing artwork by Jazz Holmes become part of the journey and bring another creative element to the East Colfax corridor.

Stay tuned for what’s next!

#ThrowbackThursday to a beautiful evening at the @dumuseum celebrating “Indigenous Gastronomy: Our Connection to Family, Tradition, Place,” an exhibition featuring the incredible work of @metaphoricalmuse

Guests had the opportunity to experience Jazz’s exhibition before gathering for a conversation between Jazz and me, moderated by Jeanne of the Indigenous Film & Arts Festival. Together, we explored the connections between food, history, family, culture, identity, tradition, community, and place, and how those threads are reflected through Jazz’s art and our relationships with the food we inherit, prepare, and share.

And what a turnout! Natalie, Curator of Collections at the University of Denver Museum of Anthropology, shared that it was the best-attended event she’s seen during her time at the museum. ❤️

A huge thank you to Jazz for sharing her beautiful work and perspective; to Jeanne and the Indigenous Film & Arts Festival for guiding such a rich conversation; and to Christina, Natalie, and Dena at DU for all of their work bringing the evening together.

So grateful to everyone who joined us at the table.

Food has always told our stories: where we come from, what we’ve carried forward, and how generations before us turned land, labor, creativity, and love into something worth gathering around.

I’m honored to serve as the evening narrator for the Colorado Black Arts Festival’s Culinary Arts Experience, an immersive three-course dinner celebrating the foodways of the African diaspora and the contributions of Black farmers here in Colorado.

I’ll be joined by Chef Tajahi Cooke, Chef Vikky, and Chef Jasmine Holmes for an evening exploring Afro-Caribbean, West African, and Southern Creole culinary traditions through food and storytelling.

Even better, this gathering supports the @coblackartsfest’s year-round arts programming, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Black farmers across Colorado.

Come hungry for the food, the history, and the stories behind both.

NEW EXHIBIT 📢✨ Opening September 17th

Indigenous Gastronomy: Our Connection to Family, Tradition, Place

The University of Denver Museum of Anthropology is pleased to partner with The International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management to present this Indigenous Film & Arts Festival art exhibit.

While external forces often seek to erase traditions, food is a powerful force that keeps identity and memory alive. As cultures interact and intertwine, new cuisines arise, founded in tradition while adapting to new environments, ingredients and techniques.

Creole cooking is perhaps the quintessential embodiment of the creation of a unique cuisine. We are pleased to present an exhibit by artist Jazz Holmes @metaphoricalmuse celebrating her Creole family’s food traditions.

✨August sent me inward to question my understandings of the how & why I see things, each other, and gender dynamics. Womanhood under everyone’s gaze and how we regain autonomy. I’ll wax on about this another time.

But as a result, I willingly went down the rabbit hole of these three artists & hope you feel the unique intentionality of August’s #enamoringartistry curation.

August’s Featured Artists:
