Bookstores in Pike Place Market. The ones most people never find.

Three of them are in the Lower Levels below the main arcade, the quietest part of the busiest market in Seattle.

Chin Music Press, stall 329. An independent publisher with its own shop, so the books are made as objects.

BLMF Literary Saloon, stall 322. Secondhand books, floor to ceiling. J.B. has run it for more than twenty five years, and it is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.

Pine Books, stall 432, formerly Lion Heart. A bookstore has been in this spot since 1961, and owner Tiffany is its sixth caretaker. Take the ramp by City Fish.

Left Bank Books, 92 Pike St. A worker collective since 1973, with more than 10,000 new and used titles and a lot of radical and small press work.

Lamplight Books, in the Sanitary Market building. Open since 2003, selling used and out of print books, with literary translations as the specialty.

Three book adjacent bonus stops.

Golden Age Collectables, Lower Levels. Founded in 1961 and widely called the oldest comic shop in the world still in business.

Metsker Maps, 1511 1st Ave. Maps and globes, for anyone who reads an atlas for fun.

Tarot Crow, stall 512, right under the Public Market sign. Owner Andrew Corax stocks what he calls the largest selection of tarot and oracle decks in the Pacific Northwest, and every deck is open to try.

Hours shift, so check before you go.

Save this for your Seattle trip.

Five bookshops, and most visitors find zero. Three of them sit below the main arcade in the Lower Levels, which is the quietest square footage in the building.

Correction: BLMF is open daily. That was my mistake, not theirs.

One of the last remaining map stores in the United States, and the map store I grew up with, @metskermaps . A must visit if you find yourself in #seattle and are a map collector, hiker, traveler, or just general appreciator of #maps .

📚 🌎 One of my favorite little book stores specializing in travel books and maps. It’s the place I go to get my kids souvenirs when I have traveled to Seattle. @metskermaps you’re a treasure of a store. 🗺️📚

I love exploring cities on foot, and Seattle is one of the best places to do it. From hidden corners of Pike Place Market to cozy & awesome gems along First Avenue & the Waterfront — these are under-the-radar worth checking out:

📍 @pikeplacepublicmarket:

•1-3 Pike Place Secret Garden — a community-led garden with beautiful views of the Waterfront and Elliott Bay.

•4-5 @folioseattle — a nonprofit, membership-based library and cultural center, though visitors are welcome and day passes are available.

•6 Vintage Photo Booth by Orange Dracula — Hidden on Level 3 beneath the staircase. A fun and nostalgic Market experience.

•7 @metskermaps — a Seattle institution for travelers, map lovers, and curious explorers.

——————————————————————————

📍 First Avenue (from Madison to Pike)

•8 ”Drift: Meadows” — an animated floral art installation inside @seattleartmuseum lobby. Free to view. The museum is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but the installation can still be enjoyed from outside.

•9-11 @theshopbyporter — part, part gift shop, with excellent coffee, baked and thoughtfully curated selection of museum-quality goods.

•12-13 @watsonkennedy — 1st & Pike Place Market — a beloved Seattle shop filled with beautiful home décor, books, stationery, and treasures sourced from around the world.

•14-15 @cuurbanmarketandcafe — a convenient stop for snacks, pastries, coffee, and local treats. Their matcha drinks are especially worth trying.

•16 Harbor Steps — one of downtown Seattle’s most underrated public spaces, connecting First Avenue to the Waterfront.

•17 @franschocolates — treat yourself to one of Seattle’s most iconic sweets. Their salted caramels are legendary for a reason.

——————————————————————————-

📍 Waterfront:

•18-29 Seattle Antiques Market & Waterfront Seattle Market — a treasure trove for vintage lovers, collectors, and anyone who enjoys browsing for unexpected finds and hub for goodies by local artists and businesses.

Which spot are you checking out first? 🫶

Save this for your next @downtownseattle day and send it to someone who loves exploring cities on foot.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you 📖 😉

In all seriousness, @metskermaps has held a special place in my heart from the moment I stepped inside years ago. It’s the type of space where you instantly feel inspired. Since that first visit, I’ve often left with (almost) more books than I can carry + a map or two for my home.

Did you know about this map / bookstore combo near Pike Place Market?

I'm getting hyped for the FIFA World Cup coming to Seattle this June! I wasn't lucky enough to win the lotto to buy tickets (nor could I afford them). The clock is set to the date of the first game hosted in Seattle between Belgium and Egypt. The US will take on the Aussies on 6/19! The only soccer jersey I have is the Gizz mundal jersey so I guess I'm rooting for Australia lol. They better play some Gizz at that game and on the broadcast!!!

This was inspired by the world famous Public Market Center sign at Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle. I have a bunch more Seattle World cup designs in the work that I'm stoked to share!

And of course more Gizzy stuffffff

Up on Etsy now!

Scenes from around Pike Place Market. What a nostalgic piece of Seattle. I love exploring this place every time I’m in Seattle, especially with my camera. Look at those colors!
