Just finished this gem! 3/5⭐ I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I wanted to absolutely fall in love with this book. And it did hook me but not until the last quarter. The world building is the central focus of the book and is absolutely breathtaking. I could see it all within my minds eye which is an incredible feat of story telling. I've recently been reading first person POVs so maybe that was part of it but I had a difficult time getting to know the characters from third person POV. It was also difficult to determine the relationships that developed between characters from this POV. It wasn't as easy to read between the lines. There is magic woven within the storylines and it was difficult for me to understand why and how it worked. I feel that that is also a part of the story but it made it difficult for me. I would have liked to see more on depth or more obvious feelings towards and among the 3 main characters. Whether that be a neutral feeling, a distrustful feeling or romantic. And possibly get a bit more information earlier on within the story of how the magic works within the characters origin worlds in order to better engage with the story and how it might be different as they travel. I am looking forward to the continuation of the story as it's gotten quite intriguing! #imperatora
