Happy Birthday Karma. He is 11yrs old today He saved my life. Literally.
Karma- my all black Maine Coon saved my life the night of my stroke.

I had passed out on my couch, was alone, & woke up to him howling & batting my face. That's when I realized I couldn't move the entire right side of my body.

I fully believe God used Karma to save my life. Majority of people who "pass out" from a stroke never wake up.

I don't believe you are supposed to die young. I'm here, grateful for my life, & continue to progress and heal, 4.5yrs post massive ischemic freak stroke. I refuse to accept anything less than a full recovery.

The Impossible is possible. I'm the 1% & living proof. Life is still be🖤

Things I took for granted with two arms and two hands:

Lighting a match- just was able to do it for the first time in over 4years!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Put on clothes
Blowdry your hair
Eat without pushing food off the plate
Put hair up in ponytail
Open garbage bag
Fill garbage bag
Open any bottle or jar
Carry something without handles
Text
Get something from your wallet
Change sheets
Open a box, letter, package
Cut anything
Lift a pot of water
Cook
Crack an egg
Open a can…any can
Get out of bed
Open anything requiring tearing
Open your pill bottle
The list goes on but im learning how to do some of the things not fully able bodied YET 😉

Our bodies were designed to heal. Im getting there.

4 years ago today. I'm flooded with memories of my life before and my life now. I never saw this coming. I truly lived my life on my terms & was living my best life. I've fought tooth & nail to be at this point in recovery. My healing knee has come back with a vengance this past month. I've showed up every day & been fortunate that recovery is my full time "job". I don't know how people do this attempting to work again or with kids or without support. Grateful doesn't begin to describe how I feel to my soul- for cheating death. I know I was divinely protected. I know I wouldn't be where I am today without the army behind me of prayer warriors, my mom- caregiver, my sister, my family in Greece & Germany, my medical teams in Dallas & Charleston, my physical & occupational therapists at MUSC, my tribe of Chosen Family who never abandoned me, every single stroke warrior I've met along the way, the select Charleston friends who've accepted me without knowing who I was before this, the complete strangers who've made this recovery easier. I'm forever indebted to you all.
My full independence isn't here yet, but I've come so f#%king far!! I'm NEVER giving up. I believe I will make a full recovery.
To everyone who is fully able bodied and who has the complete freedom to create the life you want- I implore you- SEIZE IT!
LIFE can change in one day. Don't waste it
And last but not least- to those who have abandoned me in this journey, made it more difficult than easier- I forgive you & I hope you heal.

Ive been to hell & back but-
Life is still beautiful after a stroke. 🖤
