On this last Friday of #AAPIHeritageMonth, I'd like to shine a light on Amy Tan, an Asian-American author who has made an impactful influence on Asian American Literature.

Amy Tan's most notable novel is "The Joy Luck Club" which highlighted her upbringing, her relationship with her mother, growing up in a Chinese American household to Chinese immigrants and the cultural disconnect she felt growing up in Oakland, California which is where she was born.

Her work has been translated into over 35 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide. And "The Joy Luck Club" was so popular that it became a movie in 1993.

I read "The Joy Luck Club" in the late 80s/ early 90s and many of Amy Tan's subsequent novels such as "The Kitchen God's Wife"

Like many other Asian Americans, Amy Tan's story really does showcase the Chinese-American experience and the struggles and cultural clashes between Chinese immigrant mothers and their American-born daughters.

There are perspectives on race, immigration and even American identities.

I share similar experiences with my own mother and our cultural differences and similarities growing up in America.

Amy Tan has influenced many Asian-Americans like myself to tell our stories, find our voice and be heard.

So yesterday was the 2nd of the Lunar New Year 大年初二 (aka The Spring Festival) AND happened to be my Chinese Birthday 🎂 on the Lunar calendar so I took the day off to celebrate, eat lots of great Chinese food, celebrate customs & festivities, as well as be with my family.

We celebrated with a delicious Chinese lunch of multiple courses & drinks at @53nyc restaurant right next to @53w53 (I have clients who live there) in Midtown Manhattan.

I got all festive wearing my new white with red horses Chinese New Year jacket & tee-shirt and admired all the great Lunar New Year decor around the city. I got many compliments on my festive jacket yesterday!

Those born in the Year of the Horse (like myself 🐴🧧) are often described as being straightforward, powerful, strong, motivated, social, confident, energetic & graceful. But they also are prone to be impatient or can make impulsive decisions.

Other Zodiac signs that will see success in the Year of the Horse include: The Dog 🐕, Tiger 🐅, Rabbit 🐇, Dragon 🐉, and the Horse 🐎.

Careers that will flourish (favoring the fast-paced, high energy, that will have freedom & rapid growth) are: Finance & Risk Management (like myself), Technology, Logistics & those starting a new business with entrepreneurship with creative pursuits.

So even though us horses may be a hardworking bunch with strong momentum to move forward, we still do need to take a day off to celebrate & balance out our personal and work life!

Let us all gallop into a strong & prosperous year together 🐎🧧🙏🏻💰🔥

And a quick shout-out to our incredible Education Coordinator, @annepiecoro , at BNI Mighty 34 Networking Group for your detailed piece on the history and customs of Lunar New Year this morning! Brava!

I love carrying @mydaydaybelgium upcycled Delvaux tote bag to run errands around town. Made of 1970s vintage @delvaux dust bags, it is easy breezy and stylish as well. The Magritte pouch is great to hold keys or loose change.

I got my new mani pedi 💅🏻 in a Miami turquoise blue color with white clouds and then my pedicure is both turquoise and emerald green 🩵💚 to highlight my new @wempe_us Emerald Twist necklace.

A funny spin on today's #WalkingWednesday post - a focus on what is in my work bag and where I take it around the city to meet clients and referral partners.

Some of you may know that I have a love for bags (to learn more you can go check out my Instagram page ➡️ @miabagstyle). As a birthday present, my husband gives me this @delvaux Magritte Tote bag to use for work. It is sleek, stylish, versatile and came all the way from @mydaydaybelgium in Brussels, Belgium 🇧🇪!

So what is in my Delvaux Magritte Tote Bag?🎩🍏 Well, quite a lot! This leather tote bag was able to fit my laptop, 2 cell phones, a folder, a note pad, a cherry keyboard and wireless mouse, an extra USB port, pens, 2 Delvaux cardholders, toiletries and my keys!

And where did I go walking to? 🚶🏻‍♀️

I had an early morning meeting at 9AM with a new attorney prospect who needed to get lawyers professional liability in Midtown, so I left my home at 7:10AM to catch a 7:30AM NJ Transit Train to Penn Station, then took the subway to my office at 53rd Street and Broadway. I then walked over to 55th & Madison.

In the afternoon, I had a BNI @mighty34nyc one-to-one with Beth Broyles, Professional Organizer @bborganizing, in K-Town's @touslesjoursusa, a French-Korean Bakery on 32nd Street.

I then walked over to 36th Street & 5th Avenue for another client meeting.

Another busy walking day for this busy client advisor! Stayed tuned next week to see where I end up walking to.

She's your lobster 🦞 Sun is finally out, I'm going for a nautical look today - love my @brooksbrothers lobster sweater paired with simple jeans, my new @vivaia_official booties that are super comfy to walk around in. And my bag choice of the day is my #AntwerpBlue @delvaux PM Brillant with super cute cloud puff ribbon. Where do you think we're off to today on #BlackFriday?

It's the most wonderful time of the year to share some #onetoone foodie networking meals on this #WalkingWednesday!

Last week, I walked from my office to Rockefeller Center to have an one-to-one lunch with Richard Goldstein, @gorascal Mortgage Broker for a great networking meal at Tsuru Ton Tan Udon Noodle Sushi restaurant in their Midtown location.

Despite @rockefellercenter being over run by visiting tourists, I still had the chance to click a few photos of the wonderful displays of holiday decorations on Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave), 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue as I walked by there.

While this may not a Foodie Friday post, it is one of my favorites to post on sharing a great meal while getting to know my BNI @mighty34nyc Networking group members - developing stronger business relationships and learning more about each other's respective practices and work.

Fun facts that I learned from Richard's Mortgage Broker practices:
Mortgage Brokers can help you close on your loan / mortgage faster than banks can (he has helped some of his clients close on a mortgage in less than 30 days! Now that is FAST!) His background and past experience in the Reserve Mortgage industry.

And of course, I told him about recent clients I have worked with in insuring their homes (condos and co-ops), investment properties, and real estate and why there are several advantages for clients to work with professionals like ourselves instead of relying on getting insurance quotes online with no advisement from anyone.

I am going to be presenting tomorrow morning at my BNI Mighty Chapter 34 Networking group on Zoom. My topic of the day? 👉 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗬𝗖 🏡🏢

Hope to see you at our Holiday-themed Networking Meeting tomorrow!

I know that the majority of my posts this year has been all @delvaux related, but here is a flashback to a memory from a few years ago highlighting my love for @alldiorlovers #LadyDior bags I've collected over the years. I've been a fan of this iconic and classic Dior bag for many years. These photos were taken at the Dior Boutique on 57th Street and 5th Avenue. We had just visited our nephew, Alex, who is a secret service agent for the President. He happened to be stationed at @trumptower that particular weekend so we dropped by to say hello. My Lady Dior bag choice of that day was my embellished "Under the Sea" bag. I also liked the little mini green one with black hardware that day as well. J'adore Dior on this #StyleSunday! 🇫🇷🫶🏻

It is a rainy day here on Thanksgiving and we're heading down to Spring Lake Heights, NJ to have Thanksgiving with my in-laws at a great restaurant down there @theshoreclubnj. I decided to go with my @delvaux Enlaced Mini Brillant in cloud grey because today looks like a typical Belgian day with clouds and rain here. The details of the braiding on the handle and buckle is just trés chic. And it goes wonderfully with my black/ grey outfit. This skirt I got in Naples, Italy. I can't wait to eat turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and of course my favorite Pumpkin pie 🥧 Gobble gobble! 😋

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 to all who celebrate!
