I’ve spent the day processing this loss. And I am still in disbelief. But I put some thoughts together and I’d like to share them with you guys.
To those of us who knew Jim Penn well, today we suffered a devastating loss. But anyone who had the privilege of knowing him even just a little, has suffered a loss as well.
I’ve known Jim Penn for 41 years. We met through business, but over those 41 years we forged a friendship that became so much more than business. Jim was a role model to me. I learned so much from him, too much to list.

He was truly one of a kind.
Jim had a way of making you feel like you were the only person in the world when he was talking to you. He listened with an intensity I have never experienced from anyone else. Not once do I remember Jim interrupting me when I was talking. He would wait until the very last word came out of my mouth before he opened his.

He was the definition of a true friend. He was a man who had his priorities, and yet he never allowed those priorities to get in the way of his work ethic. Whatever he did, he gave 100%. He never made excuses. He never used his family, his circumstances, his healrh or anything else as a reason not to win.

And Jim gave of himself to anyone who asked.

He was the most devoted husband , the most devoted son and the most devoted father I have ever met. Family meant everything to him.

Jim never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was allergic to gossip. You could not create a word game that would get him to enter into a negative conversation about anything. If he had nothing good to say, he said nothing.

Jim Penn was the same Jim Penn whether he was standing on a stage in front of 30,000 people or sitting next to you having lunch. He never showed hurt, doubt or fear. But when you needed someone to listen, he was there. He was an empathetic ear and a true friend.

I am sad beyond belief. I honestly cannot begin to describe the pain I feel over this loss.

I truly believe there has never been another Jim Penn on this planet, and there never will be again. He was truly one of a kind.

Rest in peace, my friend. You will be forever missed, but never, ever forgotten.
