Aerial Cinematography for Don Toliver - E85. Flying in close proximity to the legendary Fred North during an extraction scene over LAPD HQ with the talent hanging from the helicopter skid. Built a true live news helicopter look, running a Sony setup on the Alta X paired with a Fujinon 21-300mm expanded out to 31-450mm. 🎥 Behind the Scenes | Blackhole Video 🚁🎶 + Aerial Team Notes ✍️ 📝 by @michael_keeper We planned the opening shot as a continuous backward fly-through of the oil rig. The vocalist would appear first, followed by each band member as the drone moved through a narrow gap in a high-top platform, revealing the drummer on the first snare flam hit, and the guitarist and bassist as their parts kicked in. The main challenge was safely executing the flight path in extremely close proximity to the talent while keeping the drone at the perfect speed to sync with the song’s intro. Along with this complex opening shot, our team at Camera On Wings captured cinematic climbing and descending orbits with the Inspire 3, overhead shots, fly-throughs, pull-aways, and my personal favorite - dynamic shots of the guitarist on the smokestack helipad, filmed on a 75mm f/1.8 FF macro lens. Since Architects is one of my favorite bands, it was an absolute honor to be part of the Blackhole shoot as the Inspire pilot and aerial DP. Shooting “THE DAM” was an absolute adventure! This project pushed us to the edge, but the challenges—from chasing the perfect sunlight to battling desert heat, wind, and even getting vehicles stuck in the sand—only made it more epic. The breathtaking scenery made every obstacle totally worth it. Big shoutout to @chrisdaughtry for not just bringing his creativity but pulling off some serious athletic feats in the middle of all this madness. And to our incredible crew, who powered through every hurdle with passion and grit. Couldn’t have done it without you!
