The @sonyalphafemale community has been such a big part of my growth and inspiration over the last few years. Since 2023, I’ve been lucky enough to receive four microgrant awards, and each one has pushed me to keep creating, exploring, and trying new things. 🧡

I wanted to share a photo from the very first microgrant I won because it feels like such a full-circle moment.

This Wednesday, I’ll be joining the one and only @michaelaion for a live conversation about photography, travel, creativity, aerial work, and this crazy journey of building a life around the work I love. 📸

One of the highlights of the #SonyKandoTrip for me was the incredibly special @sonyalphafemale meetup and ice cream event. 💖🍦

@sonyalpha brought in the Sisters of Anarchy ice cream truck and they even created a special Sony Alpha Female flavor just for us!

The best part was getting to slow down, make friendship bracelets and key rings, and finally meet so many friends whom I had only interacted with online. There’s something really special about turning those online connections into real friendships and having the chance to spend time together, share stories, laugh, and celebrate this amazing community.

@michaelaion also surprised us with special new shirts, which made the afternoon even more memorable. 🥹

And a special shoutout to our amazing community manager @stormy.with.a.camera and our friends @chrisburkard @colbybrownphotography and @nateinthewild who continue to show up, encourage us, and genuinely support the Sony Alpha Female community. Having allies who celebrate and champion the women around them means more than they probably realize. ❤️

So grateful for this community and for moments like this that remind me Kando is about so much more than photography. it’s about the people, the friendships, and the connections we make along the way. ♥️📸

@sonyalpha keeps outdoing themselves! My third #SonyKandoTrip and the best yet 🥰 got to visit the beautiful state of Vermont and be surrounded by the most talented and amazing people! Not to mention ziplining, carnival 🎡 night, gondola rides 🚠, shooting on new gear 📸 and so much more! Happy to be apart of the Sony family ♥️

Still coming down from an incredible week at #SonyKandoTrip, and the fact that I already edited together this entire carousel should tell you everything you need to know about me feeling creatively recharged and READY 2 GO 😤❤️‍🔥

But seriously, thank you @sonyalpha @sonyelectronics @sonyalphafemale @bluepixelcreates for putting together the absolute BEST creative adult summer camp event of the year. I truly cannot express how much it meant for me to be there, and how much it has already helped me through a season of burnout and creative confusion. Until next time!! ❣️

Sony Kando @sonyalpha 📸🎥🏕️ is basically summer camp… except we’re adults with expensive cameras and questionable sleep schedules 😂

A few days to create, learn, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and remember why we picked up a camera in the first place.

For me, it’s always been bigger than the gear. It’s community, inspiration, and one big creative reset. Because woooo, I needed it!

Already missing Kando and counting down until we get to do it all over again 🥹🧡

Photography has become such an important part of my life.

Photography has given me a way to be creative, to express emotions, and to tell stories without always needing words. It allows me to capture the places I’ve explored, the adventures I’ve experienced, and the moments that make a journey unforgettable.

It has also changed the way I look at the world. How others sees it and a way to share my experiences.

I notice the little things now—the way the light hits a landscape, the colors of a sunset, the quiet moments before sunrise, the expressions on someone’s face, and the beauty that can be found in places we might otherwise pass right by.

But if there’s one thing photography has given me that I treasure most, it’s people. ❤️

Through a camera, I’ve met incredible people, formed friendships, shared adventures, and discovered opportunities I never could have imagined. Some people have crossed my path for a moment, while others have become part of my story.

And maybe that’s what I love most about photography. It’s not just about taking a picture. It’s about being present, experiencing something, connecting with others, and preserving a piece of that moment forever.

What began as a way to document my journey slowly became a creative outlet, a passion, a doorway to new experiences—and a part of who I am.

So today, I’m celebrating the camera that has helped me see the world through a different lens. 🌎📸

Happy World Photography Day to all the photographers, storytellers, creators, and dreamers who continue to capture the beauty around them.

Here’s to chasing light, chasing adventures, meeting amazing people, and never stopping to see what’s around the next corner. ❤️

My journey behind the camera has been shaped by incredible people, unforgettable experiences, and a passion that continues to grow with every shutter click. Being part of the Sony community has challenged me to learn, create fearlessly, and constantly push my creative boundaries. Every sunrise chased, every adventure embraced, and every story captured has made me a better photographer and storyteller.

To everyone who has inspired me, shared knowledge, encouraged my work, or simply paused to appreciate an image—thank you. This community reminds me that photography isn't just about the gear we use; it's about the connections we make and the stories we choose to tell.

Twenty years ago, a camera changed the shape of my life. I was one of the first photographers Sony ever named an Artisan, and one of the first to hold the Alpha 900, the first of many innovations and a full-frame miracle. I remember the weight of it, the way the viewfinder filled with light, the knowing of how this tool would become my way of seeing.

Since then, my Sony Alpha, in its many iterations, has gone everywhere I have gone. It has been pressed to my eye in freezing water off the coast of Norway, steadied on the deck of a boat in the Pacific, carried into the field with the International League of Conservation Photographers, through my years with National Geographic, and into every expedition we have mounted at SeaLegacy. It has witnessed what I have witnessed. A whale rising, an elder praying, a reef holding on, a glacier letting go.

A camera is not just glass and metal. It is a way of bearing witness, and bearing witness is how I love this planet out loud.

Here is a small look back at the road we have traveled together.

Thank you, @sonyalpha, for building the tools that let me break hearts open, because a broken-open heart is where change begins.
