In the month of June, I was fortunate enough to stay in a yurt with a shepherd for two weeks. I happened to stumble across this man at a picnic in the valley and agreed a price there on the spot - him on the horse and me at his feet - (interesting power dynamics at play here) And so the deal was conducted on the hoof...

on this trip, I amassed some hefty blisters in the inter-gluteal cleft (two men, one horse, one saddle - just general Kyrgyz horseplay), lost my gopro in a lake, 4000m above sea level - literally in the jerkwater of Kyrgyzstan, and racked up about 40 hours of horse riding, poor thing - they say you can’t beat a dead horse but we sure tried! - the shepherd’s weapo-... I mean instrument of choice was usually the trustworthy wellington boot or sometimes a stalk of rhubarb found growing naturally, out in the wild of the Kyrgyz Republic

Write up coming soon.

Transport options in Uzbekistan are abundant! You can buy any car you want... as long as it’s a Chevrolet.

While Uzbekistan may not be as tight on import duties as it used to be, the republic still remains Chevy-heavy - 94% of all automobiles on Uzbek soil are stamped with the GM-Motors badge of US...greatness?

Photographed on the bus from uzbek/kg border „Dostuk“ to the city of Andijan.

The British government and its infinite wisdom decided it would be best to keep Turkey on the red list... In order to return to Blighty for a visa without having to pay the £1700 for hotel quarantining (a service free for illegal immigrants), I had to avoid Istanbul by making my way across Uzbekistan to Tashkent! Not all was smooth sailing though... 🤠

A little piece titled „mission Blighty - the *law-abiding* return“ is coming soon on www.michaelalexanderjob.com

Photographing the youth of today never fails to produce interesting results. Shooting from a low elevation captures the world they see - a world of sheer scale that overpowers and excites.

Here I also took some other interesting photographs but as if by magic, they had vanished from my roll of developed negatives forged from blood, sweat and tears.

There is always a chance an exposure will be lost forever, but that is the very nature of film photography - accessibility, reliability and convenience are sacrificed for the indulgence of photography in its purest art form!

With so many variables at play, the probability of failure is relatively high, yet I keep rolling the dice and going back for more...

...despite the occasional upsets along the way, the risk is indeed worth the reward

Another area of photography I have been lucky enough to explore is astrophotography.

Here is a capture of Burana Tower on ISO 200 Film - not recommended!

Shooting long exposures has always been difficult for me - I prefer to shoot fast and with flexibility. But using a tripod under extreme pressure is difficult!

I am slowly improving 😄
