A huge thank you to the Hindu Society of Guelph for bringing together candidates ahead of the upcoming municipal election!

It was a pleasure speaking with distinguished members of the Hindu Society and fellow candidates about Guelph’s future and how we can build a stronger community, together.

A special thank you to Kirtida’s Kitchen for hosting and for the incredible food, as always! ❤️

Thank you for the warm welcome and meaningful conversation.

This morning a group of us walked Scottsdale Drive together to look at the bike lanes up close. 7 candidates for mayor and Ward 5, sitting councillors, and the neighbour who pulled it all together.

We didn't all come in with the same views. But we all recognized the same things: broken concrete curbs, school buses stopping in the bike lane, parents circling side streets at pickup, and a design that doesn't work well for cyclists or drivers.

More than 1,100 neighbours have signed the petition. This isn't bikes against cars. It's a street that should work for everyone, and it's worth getting right.

Thank you to Brittany Scott for organizing, and to Leanne Caron @leanneguelph Cathy Downer @cathy_downer Dakota Cherry @dakotacherryforguelph Wesley Harris @vote.wes and James Doran @drjamesdoran for showing up and listening. Michael Agueci @michaelforguelph joined us too but had to leave before the photo.

Good things happen when people walk the street together. More of this.

What do you think? Should the city remove the concrete blocks?

As a disability advocate I'm taking this election seriously and have been reaching out to possible and current city councillors inside and out of my ward.

The first councillor I wanted to speak with, Jon Christensen, turned out to be right wing pretending to be progressive, always do your research...

But today I tried again, so I cold called:

My city councillor Kathy Downer here in Guelph who is running again, we spoke for thirty minutes, she is on the housing committee, helped lower youth homelessness 75%, wants to support Bench and drop in better, wants to push for basic income.

A student who is 23 named Michael Agueci who is economics major graduating in December, we spoke for 40 minutes about economics, basic income, rent increases, poverty and how homelessness is a housing problem, not our fault. He has youth and pep and wants this to be his full time work.

Just spoke with councillor in running Danny Lui, he sounded amazing, he is a social-capitalism as he self describes. He has a low income rental downtown he out in free laundry and wifi, and when they couldn't reach food bank's, he got a good bank depot put in basement of building. He leads on Thurs and Saturdays a crew to help clean campsites and have conversation with unhoused folks. He's retired, small business and wants to meet me at my house next week.

I have spoken to two more candidates, these are not in my ward, Michell Bowman is an amazing person who is very progressive, we might go to a drop in or shelter together soon, she will help me get there too. She understands the vulnerable community and has many great connections in the city.

I also spoke to Daniel, he's in his 30s and recently defeated his landlords renoviction and started an renters alliance and helped the unhoused situation here in Guelph. I know several people who work closely with him, we spoke briefly in person but he followed my social and I'm hopping to work some more with these people.

Please call your councillors, end these cycles of homelessness and addictions, mental health crises and more. Jurisdiction and civics be damned, bring it up to them all.

(Forgot to post this here but it was on threads, fb, and twit)
