Remembering Lux on w/ would have been his 80th birthday. Stay sick. Turn blue. Salute to the Legend. Rest in Peace.

THIS IS WHAT INSTAGRAM WOULD LOOK LIKE WITHOUT PHOTOGRAPHERS AND VIDEOGRAPHERS.

A black screen.

The music would still be playing.
But no portraits. No backstage. No concert photos. No music videos. Nothing to see.

I’m a photographer and videographer, and there is something I find deeply unfair.

Musicians can use our photos and videos on their professional Instagram accounts, add music, promote their work, build their image and grow their careers.

And I want them to. That’s part of why we create.

But when photographers and videographers want to do the same, use music to present our own work on our professional accounts, suddenly different rules apply.

We’re a business. We make money from our work. So we can’t simply use that music.

But musicians make money from their work too.

Composers get paid.
Songwriters get paid.
Performers get paid.
Photographers and videographers get paid too.

So why don’t we have the same opportunities to present our creative work?

This isn’t only about music videos. A family can post my photos with their favourite song. A couple can use their song. A woman can post my portrait with music that gives the image another layer of emotion.

But the photographer who created those images may not be allowed to do the same.

I don’t want music to be free. I don’t want fewer rights for musicians.

I want fair rights and a clear, affordable, legal way for photographers and videographers to use music in our professional portfolios too.

So I’m asking musicians, singers, composers and songwriters to support us.

Because without music, many of our videos would be silent.

But without photographers and videographers, your Instagram might look exactly like this: black.

The music would still play.

There would just be nothing to see.

We give music a face.
Let music give our images a voice.🙏

Adam Carolla’s car collection is big on racing. The comedian & gearhead owns a renowned multi-million-dollar collection valued at around $15 million, heavily centered around vintage race cars and famously featuring the largest collection of historic race cars driven by actor Paul Newman.

The unicorn of the fleet is a historic 1979 Porsche 935 originally driven by Newman. Adam purchased it at auction for $4.4 million after producing a documentary on Newman’s racing career and selling five of his vintage Lamborghinis to fund the purchase. He also owns two more Porsches: a 911 GT3 R and a 911S.

Although his collection is mostly centered around Nissan/Datsun race cars driven by Paul Newman during his racing years, Adam has plenty of other gems too. Two Oldsmobile Cutlass Trans-Ams, three Nissan 300ZX race cars, a Datsun 280ZX, Nissan 200SX, Nissan 280ZX Twin-Turbo, BRE Datsun 2000 Roadster, BRE Datsun 510 Trans-Am, a Ford Escort Mk I, Triumph TR6 and more. He also used to own a BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile,” but eventually sold it.
