A peek inside Duet with Film 🎥💃

Dance Camera West is thrilled to be working with Colburn on its first craft course, Duet with Film: A Dance Film Creation Course, led by DCW co-founder Kelly Hargraves with visiting artist Jessie Lee Thorne. Over six weeks, participants are exploring how movement and filmmaking come together, from concept and choreography through shooting and editing.

And the dance-on-film momentum continues.

This January, Dance Camera West returns for its 2027 Festival at venues across Los Angeles, including our LA POPS UP program at Colburn’s Zipper Hall.

Looking further ahead, Colburn has just announced the September 2027 opening celebrations for its Frank Gehry-designed campus expansion, including a new Dance Center that will become the home of the Trudl Zipper Dance Institute.

Grateful to be creating alongside:

Opening THIS Saturday 7pm
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Bendix Building, 1206 Maple Ave
TO WITNESS IS NEVER ENTIRELY PASSIVE
August 22 – September 13, 2026

What happens when witnessing becomes participation—and when silence becomes a form of consent? To Witness Is Never Entirely Passive brings together artists, journalists, and activists who examine the relationship between visibility and responsibility, documentation and action, truth and power. In a world saturated with images, information, conflict, and human suffering, the exhibition asks: What do we do with what we witness? And what obligations arise when we encounter the realities of others?

Curated by Fatemeh Burnes, at Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles, this exhibition explores the uneasy space between observing the world and attempting to change it.

To Witness Is Never Entirely Passive
Group Show
•••••
Saturday, August 22, 7-10 pm
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles
1206 Maple Ave, Suite 523, 5th Floor, Los Angeles
Through September 13, 2026
•••••
To Witness Is Never Entirely Passive brings together Sahab Zaribaf, Ximena Del Cerro, Mary Linda Moss, Mei Xian Qiu, Michal Greenfield, and Maria Adela Diaz, whose diverse cultural heritages and practices examine the intersections of art, journalism, and activism.

Through acts of witnessing, documenting, questioning, and responding, the exhibition considers how creative and journalistic practices can engage the realities of our time—and how individuals, without necessarily identifying as activists, may nevertheless participate in a larger global conversation about responsibility, humanity, and change.

LOS ANGELES I’m yours! so pumped to celebrate Repartings in the book’s birthplace with amazing guests! see you there ~~~~~~🥀🥀🌹🥀 Sunday, May 31, 1:00 PM | Radical Haftarah poetry reading. Join Joelle Maxx Milman for the Los Angeles launch of her debut book of poetry Repartings, which first appeared serialized in the Der Nister newsletter. Called “breathtaking” by Rabbi Jill Hammer, Repartings is a cyclical poetic response, in voice feral and exacting, to the imagery of the prophetic texts of the Hebrew bible. The LA launch will feature a reading, live painting by @michalgreenfield, an experimental haftarah reading with @golden.zach, a q&a, and time to mingle. Free entry, though Joelle will be selling and signing her book.
