✨🔥 ABOUT OCTOBER'S SLAMA

Just look at how beautiful you all are!!

No matter how old we get, or sad we get or heartbroken we get, we must keep the crack of the heart open just enough to let the poetry in, let the poetry in, let the poetry in, let YOUR poetry in.

This is how we survive. This is how we thrive. This is how we grow. This is how we know one another.

And we will never stop.

Congratulations to everyone who made it to Slama in October be it on the mic, as a judge, crew and all the magical willpower it takes to get us all there ...

❤️ Thank you, thank you, thank you ❤️

Especially to our amazing feature Poet @haneens.ao flying all the way from Brisbane to be with us. May the memory of that night and your trip live on forever.

A big solid congrats to our top three! And to our winner 🏆 @sarahsadie_sj 👏🏼👏🏽👏🏿

October's slam was deep in content and feels with so many returning and new Poets this city is lucky enough to hold.

Let's keep that crack a lacked and show November we are serious about our poetry, about our collaborations and about supporting each other's collective rise.

See you all on the 18th! Poet Registration is now open.

And 📸 @lilly.pilly deep thanks for always capturing the essence of us and everything you do behind the scenes 💘

I was only meant to be a one-off photographer fill in back in 2021 that just turned into a 4 year journey of witnessing and creating the narrative of vulnerability and soul baring craftsmanship 🖤

As a community, we’ve gone from strength to strength. It’s like they say ‘it takes a village’ 🏡 and it rings so true with the @slamalamaslam community!

The narrative NEVER stops 📷

We are SO INCREDIBLY LUCKY to be photographed 📸 by the phenomenal @lilly.pilly ... It's a special collaboration we keep building on and having the night documented is so helpful - because so often these nights just remain in our memories and it's easy to forget how much magic we make when we are together as a community ✨✨✨ let these outtakes and behind the scenes captures from our last Slama in June be your REMINDER 🤗 the truth is... You're all just so iconic.

Come do it all again on September 9th

Poet Rego is open and Tickets available via bio.

⚡🔥 LOOK AT YOU!

How do we even quantify or describe the value of our coming together? ...

The NEW SHIT Slam this previous Tuesday brought new and old Poets together, we created new pathways, new friendships and new levels of poetic rigour to aspire to.

Team Slama shone like rockstars. Blaine shot to first place with a tie between Matt and Marcus for 2nd and 3rd.

A massive thank you to our audience who come hungry for spoken word as we all grapple with these broken systems, this crisis point, our work together is a bouy keeping us afloat.

A massive thank you to our MC @visualpoetics always bringing the vibe, all the Poets who put your name in the hat, trusted our process and came for the ride... Thank you to our crew @hawraakash @farismindal @latifaelmrinigonzalez @lilly.pilly and a massive thanks to the judges - we know it's not an easy role but we hope you felt treated well. Also huge thanks to @brunswick.ballroom, Ethan and the crew.

Back in September! Big things coming! Watch this space!

There's low-key ... and then there's WHHHHHHHOOOA key ✨🔥😉 and this Wednesday was the latter, at Slama.

WHAT A NIGHT POETS!!!! A packed house, a full roster of fresh and familiar slammers bringing insane levels of quality and talent, the boldest feature, the sweetest crew being the glue... it was hands down a slice of spoken word heaven.

Our heartfelt ✨THANK YOU✨ goes out to the crew and OG's @visualpoetics, @lilly.pilly @yaru_himself @antoniomontaine @stephaniebernabepoetry @tamlatim @farismindal

@fleassymalay for a feature set that is going down in history 🙏🏼💓🌹Thank you to your posse and all who joined you on stage

Thank you Flora and our twelve slamming Poets! Thank you to our judges - what a generous and kind bunch! Ethan and the crew at Brunswick Ballroom. 🙏🏼

It was like an amazing dream we wish we could re-live.

Special Congrats 🎉 goes out to our winner 🏆 Michael (in the final pic of this carousel) who will be helping us to open our next show on June 17th where 'Team Slama' will be featuring alongside our high energy 3 round poetry slam. Mark your calendars and let's do it all again.

Lastly, thank you everyone who comes out on a Wednesday night for the sake of Poetry and using our voices to resist the forces that be - you are literally the coolest ppl to exist on this planet. You help an array of Artists be compensated for their work and give us all a reason to keep making each other better.

See you in June Slama Friends!

LAST NIGHT 🎇 Coming Back to Our Roots, March 20th RE-CAP....

What we touch at Slama is so ephemeral and fleeting. Real poetic practice. Real connection. Real community. Real collaboration. It's like awakening from a really good dream. But it was real. And it takes a second or two to process and adjust back into the real world!

Last night so much healing happened.

Here is a brief list:

✨@denisechapmanstoryteller carried us down a river of rhythm with a bold and generous feature set.

✨ Team Slama Alumni connected with the new Team Slama who all connected with the returning newbies and the returning audience ... and this was kind of mind blowing considering how long we have been on a break for while our current team has been in deep creative process 🤯

✨ You - the audience stayed all the way until the end even though a ⚡⚡ thunderstorm made us late and behind schedule. You became judges for the slam and helped make it all happen. You were all so GENEROUS and patient and present. Can we conclude this is miraculous for the times we live in?

✨ We shared in reflective practice on our cultural procedures, making sure not to assume safety but step into curiousity and what needs reviewing. Together. Taking risks. Wiling to be uncomfortable but trusting our time together is a microcosm of what needs to be revolutionised, unlearned, changed, started from scratch and let us be willing to build anew.

✨ Congratulations to Flora, Winner of the mini slam. please reach out to us because you've won an opening slot at next month's event upstairs in the Brunswick Ballroom and we don't have your email!! And thank you to ALL the poets who slammed and were so PATIENT with such a full night of warming back up into our natural flow.

Big shoutouts and deep gratitude go out to:

🌟 Our MC @visualpoetics, without you we are a long pregnant pause!!! 🌟 Team Slama!! New and old, you know who you are. For showing up. For caring. For your dedication to your practice. 🌟 Ethan and Will @brunswickballroomaus 🌟 @sophiekomorebii for these DREAMY stills and @farismindal for live motion capture 🌟 Special thanks to those who returned as if no time has passed. You give us strength.
