Wonderful celebration today for the 1st year of the @la_lucha_sigue_bookclub. 🥳 🥳 🥳 It was a wonderful meeting today reflecting on this past year, and things to look forward to in the future of the club. It gave me lots to think about as we move forward into the second year.

There was such a wonderful turnout today with so many familiar and new faces. I feel phenomenally valued and emboldened to continue the club into the future. 😀 😀 😀

A bunch of raffle winners went home with new Chicano art made by yours truly. 🎨

And a really great printing session! Lots of shirts and things printed! 👕

I'd like to give special thanks to @markanthonymartinezstudio for his consistent support throughout the year. Mark has been vital in the birth of and continued success of the club. I'd also like to thank @hnh.art.portfolio of @thrd_space_satx for continually making space for us and for her continued support. I'd also like to thank all the wonderful people of @interlopergallery and @smartsatx for their support and giving us a home for our meetings throughout the year.

If you haven't yet done so, FOLLOW THESE PEOPLE AND SUPPORT THEIR SPACES AND PROJECTS! They are amazing people who do so much for the San Antonio community. They are incredible! 😀

Deep thanks to everyone who showed up this year for making the book club the amazing group that it is. You have brought the best of yourselves to each meeting. Amazing questions and insights as well as not being afraid to be venerable and share earnestly of your lived experience. It has been a gift to experience the club with you.

Id also like to thank everyone who showed support throughout the year. Your kindness and support have been appreciated the whole way through, and I consider all of you an important part of the La Lucha Sigue Book Club community.

Finally, but not lastly, I'd like to give special thanks to @nalac_arts for helping promote this special anniversary meeting. ❤️

We will be meeting in October, so stay tuned for info on our next meeting! THANK YOU!!! 😀

We looked so happy at the start of this trail. 😆
Luckily there was cloud cover for *most of our hike but GOLLY that sun & humidity had us grateful for shade refuge outside the park bathrooms by the end!!! 🥵
A rainstorm rolled through just as we got done and cooled down The Earth in time for a lunch patio picnic. We went swimming in the lovely Bastrop State Park pool the entire afternoon!!! 🤗🏊🏼‍♀️

Got some great binocular looks at some red-bellied woodpeckers, pine warblers, mockingbirds & barn swallows. 🔭

Wonderful discussion yesterday with the La Lucha Sigue Chicana/o/x Book Club. This month we read and discussed "The Object Selving of Laura Aguilar: Queer Chicana Opacity and the Archive Prosthetic" by Jay Buchanan.

For more information about Laura Aguilar, please follow and keep up with @laura_aguilar_photo.

I'd like to thank @interlopergallery and @markanthonymartinezstudio for giving us access to 1906 S.Flores and very special thanks to @hnh.art.portfolio and @thrd_space_satx for giving us space for book club. I have so much gratitude for everyone that supports us every month. 😀

Keep an eye out for the next book club information notice! I'll try to get that up this week. 📚 😀

Opening Reception for my self-curated solo show, Cognizant Distance, March 7, 2026 at Central Library Gallery. I can’t imagine it going any better—such a beautiful group of family, friends & members of the community, even a rooster. From my heart, thanks to all who came. #sapl #openingreception #sanantonioartist photo credits: Lacy Valentine, with gratitude

Today, the La Lucha Sigue Chicana/o/x Book Club had a wonderful and enlightening discussion about Charlene Villaseñor Black's essay "Artist Linda Vajello and Chicana Conceptualism". We had the amazing exhibition "Mourning Harvest" by @allyshafarmer and @anastassiarxarte at @interlopergallery as the gorgeous and moving backdrop for our talk. Huge thanks to @forevermarkanthonymartinez, the entire Interloper Gallery team, and @smartsatx for opening their space to us.

As this was the last meeting of the year, I reflect and have great gratitude to everyone who has joined and supported this club, from Interloper and S.M.A.R.T. offering space, time, and effort, to all those that have reshared and liked social media posts and stories, given vocal and written messages of encouragement, joined the discussions, made suggestions and offered critical feedback, and so many other things, big and small. It has been noticed and appreciated. Much thanks. 😀

I will select and share January's reading soon, so be on the lookout for that and mark the day in your calendar! As always, it will be the last Sunday of the month (January 25, 2026). 😀 Happy New Year! 🥳

P.S. Follow Interloper Gallery on IG for their open gallery hours. Go see the current show "Mourning Harvest"! It's wonderful! It closes on Janurary 24, 2026.

Emerson once said, “good luck is another name for tenacity of purpose.” I must have some measure of tenacity in me because I feel so lucky to have been granted this opportunity to take this UTSA PACE (professional education) printmaking course. This has been an amazing space for growth as I explore this new medium. And beyond the professional applications, I’ve made some wonderful new friends in the process. Thanks to @lavidayaya1 , @luminariasa & the Working Artist Fund grant, underwritten by the Alice Kleberg Reynolds foundation, and thanks to @thecrookedspokepress for being an amazing instructor. I am so excited to exhibit these new pieces in my upcoming solo exhibits in 2026, in both Dallas (January) & San Antonio (March)…hope you’ll join me. #contemporaryart #sanantonioartist #printmaking #gratitude #professionaleducation #artgrants #verythankful #printmakingstudio #artseducation #utsapace

Happy Friday everyone! Starting today, we will be posting once a week about the wonderful students and Graduate Research Assistants that work for SLS.
••
Meet Michelle Ramirez, a second year Digital Media Graduate student!

“I provide research assistance to Dr. Rebecca Watts Hull. Currently, I am researching how to structure and maintain multi-university and multi-community-based organization Collaboratory.

I love that SLS is committed to students’ growth in and outside the classroom. They provide so many opportunities from classes, research, projects, and volunteering for students to get involved with the local community. If there isn’t an opportunity you want, SLS is open to collaboration and working alongside students to make sure they reach their goals.”
