Slightly belated, but important to share! Two Saturdays ago, I attended the launch party of a brand new publication, “Cyborg Lifestyle Magazine”, by ZOOPSIA (Ashleigh Abbott). This wonderfully subversive, independent publication’s release coincided with the Fall of Freedom in which art programs all over the country were held as creative demonstrations against rising authoritarianism in the United States. Humor, speculative essays, interviews, and fictional advertising populate each of the pages of this beautifully printed magazine, all of which serving as critical commentary on fascism, consumerism, and capitalism. The parodic take on lifestyle materialist culture is very much in line with the chaotically satiric art of the late, great Pippa Garner! The images in this post include a few other publications sold at the event including the post-humanist / post-technological “A Glossary of Hyper-Humanity” by Jordan Homstad and a cool zine by Michelle Silva that is a combination of several late-90s & early-2000s Internet styles such as the Y2K Aesthetic and Frutiger Aero. Moreover, the launch was held in a warehouse in Greenpoint, Brooklyn that was simultaneously hosting the closing of an exhibition, “Keep Your F*cking Hands Off My Body” (curated by Cassandra Neyenesch & Lydia Nobles). #magazinelaunch #brooklynart #brooklynarts #artcritic #artcritics

Some photos from HEATMAPS curated by @oorjag in my new studio shared with @zoopsia As institutions are increasingly pressured to self-censor, DIY becomes ever more important. I dream that this space becomes not just an art studio (and where I live!) but also space for artists, curators, thinkers to host activations. What's not pictured here is our rooftop. Especially in the warmer months, imagine film screenings, dinner salons, performances, participatory happenings, organizer meetings etc. If you have an idea please be in touch! Big shout out to @oorjag and @julianchristopher_ for organizing the first of hopefully many more. Loved our crew! And thank you to everyone who came out to see the exhibition.
