“For his fourth exhibition with @mai36galerie , @michelperezpollo ‘s painterly interrogation comes in pairs. “Double Gaze” presents new paintings built from hand-worked clay and Play-Doh maquettes he seems to trust more than the world itself.” Discover in CAI Magazine Words by @juliendelagrange @michelperezpollo @mai36galerie #contemporarypainter #oilpainting

From the Studio in Madrid to Zurich. Before taking shape in „Double Gaze“, Michel Pérez Pollo’s paintings begin as small clay figures hand-modelled in his studio. Growing up in Cuba, where toys and materials were often scarce, Pérez Pollo learned to invent his own worlds by making objects with his hands. That spirit of play and resourcefulness continues to shape his practice today. The resulting paintings balance abstraction and figuration, inviting viewers to dwell between recognition and imagination. All works are on view in „Double Gaze“ at Mai 36 Galerie, Zurich. — #mai36galerie

Join gallery director Henri Gisler for a look at „Double Gaze“, Michel Pérez Pollo’s fourth solo exhibition with Mai 36 Galerie, on view in Zürich through August 07. @michelperezpollo (b. 1981, Manzanillo, Cuba; lives and works in Madrid) builds his paintings from small clay models, enlarged on canvas until they hover between abstraction and figuration. In this new body of work, each form appears alongside its twin: a doubling that turns viewing into an act of comparison, and comparison into an act of attention. Video by @nidamazonalexa

On View: Michel Pérez Pollo – Double Gaze @zurichartweekend Gallery Breakfast Sunday, June 14, 11 AM Rämistrasse 37 In “Double Gaze”, @michelperezpollo proposes a game of resistance – one that challenges the viewer to seek out similarities and differences, tricks and devices, errors and accuracies, the fractal and imaginary possibilities of a matter that unfolds before us into two. Like twin souls that bifurcate, like the very beginning of a human embryo, when a single cell divides into two, and so on.. Excerpt from the Text by Omar Pascual Castillo. — Exhibition View: Michel Pérez Pollo – Double Gaze at Mai 36 Galerie, 2026. Photo Credits: Peter Baracchi — #mai36galerie
