Congratulations to Lara Marie Urschel for being the recipient of the first Lecchino Leadership & Community Service Award 🎉

AvH (@avh_montreal) is where volunteerism and community engagement were sparked for my brother Michael (@michlecc) and I. From kindergarten all the way through Abitur, Michael and I grew up surrounded by teachers and peers who modelled actionable civic involvement. The Lecchino Leadership & Community Service Award is a gesture of appreciation and recognition to students who get involved, lead with kindness, and create change.

Thank you to the AvH community for continuously supporting students and alumni, and for welcoming us to share our stories 📚

When the news that Dr. Jane had passed away was shared, Chloë Chang – one of our former Youth Advisory Council members, and one of our current Board members – reached out.

She reached out because she was grieving – but she was also grateful. "I think we're all grieving Jane in our own ways," she wrote. "But I'm grieving with gratitude for all of the incredible opportunities that Jane has afforded me through the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada."

"Because of Jane, I had a Roots & Shoots organization at my undergrad university, developed the capacity and confidence to make positive change in local and international politics, met awe-inspiring people who are lifelong friends, learned about ethical space and true reconciliation on the land, went to a United Nations conference, and was given a stage to amplify my concerns for the world as a young person."

Chloë also wrote: "I could not be more grateful to Dr. Jane Goodall for sparking the creation of the Jane Goodall Institutes that organize extraordinary people together."

To hear more from Chloë, watch this video. And @chloe.chang_, thank you for the heartfelt message – and for putting this touching tribute together.
