Derek Hartmann set an Illinois Open tournament single round record (36) in the 3rd round at Ball Fore yesterday to separate himself from the field with a 3 round total of 113. This is 5 strokes better than last year’s winning score.

Tom Schweiss finished with 2 rounds of 39 to catch up to Mick Cullen to force a playoff for 2nd place. After 3 hole playoff, the two remained tied. On the 5th playoff hole, Tom Schweiss aced Hole #3 and Mick fell inches short on his tee shot. The whole playoff can be found on our Facebook page.

Max Cullen took home the youth division plaque and a strong field of putters battled and had fun on a beautiful day for mini golf.

We’ll update the events page and rankings shortly.

Mr. Tee’s fondness for Ball Fore Miniature Golf comes through in the new review on the site. This baseball themed course south of downtown Chicago with alternating red, blue, and green turf and a customized muffler man at the entrance stands out amongst this style of course. As you can see in the review, Tom’s personal affection comes from a great experience in a tournament. Enjoy and more reviews to come soon!

The 2nd Big Putts-A-Pa-Looza tournament at Big Putts last weekend was another close affair but in the end, Matt Kraus repeats as champ in the pro division and ties the course tournament record of 33.

Justin Gutche was in 2nd with a 3 round total of 115 and Cary Keller in 3rd with a 116.

Max Cullen won the youth division and came in 2nd in the amateur division.

Excited to continue working with Big Putts to grow this annual indoor tournament in Wisconsin in 2027. Hoping to set the date for March 2027 soon!

Upper Midwest crew! Day #15 of Mini (golf) Gratitude for 2025 goes out to all the wonderful people and tournaments I road tripped to across the Midwest this summer. Over the past few years since the start of the AMA, I’ve gotten to know quite a few of the die-hard folks outside of Minnesota that compete across the Midwest. So many fun-loving characters that I’m looking forward to seeing again in 2026!

#12 Mini (golf) Gratitude for 2025 goes out to the organizer team that I work with to help organize the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA).

Fitting to share this one after a big/long meeting where we finalized a good chunk of the details for our 2026 season. This crew has been a blast to work with in trying to help grow the game and competitive sport of mini golf across the US. Everyone brings great knowledge, care, and perspective to the table. Let’s keep that ball rolling right along!

Our crew of Minnesota based mini golfers are Day #6 of Mini (golf) Gratitude for 2025

We’re a unique sort that call Minnesota home. Sure, we have no ocean in sight but we make the most of what we have with each other. Our base of locals get out together to compete regularly both indoors and outdoors throughout the year for fun and friendly competition. It has been fun to watch this build from a single tournament during the pandemic to a fun group of people we host at our tournaments 3x a year. We’ve all become closer through the game and it’s always a joy to get this gang together. Feels fitting to share this post as we’re heading into a weekend of sub-zero weather and deep snow cover. Won’t stop folks from finding a place to take a couple of putts.

Tournament Organizers are the subject of Day #5 Mini (golf) Gratitude for 2025

Behind the scenes of all of these friendly competitions and tournaments are people making sure the events are well run, fun, and welcoming. Many of the people featured in this post also play the game at a high level. These folks around the world deeply care about the game and have first hand experience in what makes a good tournament. I know I am forgetting a few folks in these photos and videos I’m sharing but shoutout to all of you who contribute above and beyond to the sport!
