POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Day 17:

Hi! Today I want to share a creativity / manifestation / art story.

When I was a kid, I was always making things; jewelry, ornaments, collages, paintings, drawings, little clay sculptures (last slide), etc. & then somewhere along the way I got it in my head that I wasn’t creative or talented at art. I quietly stopped making things with my hands & decided I should leave that to the “real artists.”

In 2020, my mom & I started making jewelry together. It felt so fun & fulfilling to make bracelets & beaded chains for people. They were nothing fancy, but it was my way of being creative at the time.

In 2022, I bought a bunch of retired tiles in Portugal. Beautiful tiles that I planned on using as coasters or wall art. Unfortunately I packed them horribly & a lot of them broke. I was sad but ended up taking a hammer to them & turned them into a very cool plate (third slide).

Then, more recently, things started to really shift for me in terms of letting my creativity & art out. My sister had given me the book Just Kids by Patti Smith, which sat on my bookshelf for a while. I eventually started it in October 2024, which is also when I got to see her perform at a festival in SF. (She was deeply inspiring to witness.) I read her book slowly & didn’t want it to come to an end. I was finding so much inspiration & beauty in her words. Reading it felt kind of sacred to me.

In February 2025, I was almost halfway through the book & was reading about how she and Robert would make necklaces together. I quickly wrote a note in my phone “I want to make necklaces like Patti Smith & Robert”. I didn’t think too much about it after that.

Then, several months later, I felt this surge of creative energy come through. I went to a pottery class with a friend & made some things I love (slide 6). Items that I found beautiful started to find me: little rolls of braided leather, beautiful pendants, glass / clay / stone / shell beads, old coins, charms, etc. I started to slowly gather items that I would find traveling or at local shops, & then I went through all of my own stuff to see what I could use.

I blinked and somehow it’s October…?

Some of my favorite memories from summer 2026: voyaged back to the homeland (Ireland) with some incredible souls, went on tour with @haileyymarea, sang on dream stages, deepened relationships with people I love, and continue to miss Nala with every single ounce of my being.

I’m grateful for this life. Thanks for being here 💜
