Caring for the land is about more than weeds and plant identification — it’s about understanding the Country we work on, and the people who have cared for it for many generations. 🌿✨ Landcare is partnering with Elders, local Aboriginal Community, Rangers and Land Councils to bring cultural heritage immersions to Landcare groups across the MidCoast. 🤝 What to expect: 👇 - Learn about the history and cultural significance of the Country you live and work on - Understand how to recognise culturally significant sites and materials - Find out what to do and who to call if you come across a potential cultural heritage find - Discover locally significant plants, seasonal knowledge, and how Country has been read and cared for long before European settlement - Take part in an on-Country experience — a walk, a yarn, or a shared activity guided by local Community. This is a chance to build relationships between Landcare volunteers and Aboriginal Community. Come with curiosity and respect — that’s all you need. Free event. Lunch provided. 🌱 Registration Essential:https://www.midcoast2tops.org.au/events #Landcare #CulturalHeritage #MidCoastNSW #CaringForCountry #RespectfulLearning This initiative has been supported by the NSW Government through the Landcare Enabling Program Phase 3 Aboriginal Partnerships Grant Program. Roads do far more than connect communities. They support housing growth, move freight, connect people to services, and help drive regional economies. Local rates alone don’t cover the cost of maintaining our road network. Following our meeting with @jennyaitchisonmp , Minister for Roads and our upcoming meeting with Shadow Minister @paultoolemp, Hunter councils continue to advocate for road re-categorisation from Local to Regional and State Roads and fairer funding arrangements that better reflect the role regional roads play in supporting communities, industry and critical infrastructure. Hear from @mayor_leah_anderson, Mayor of Port Stephens Council and Deputy Chair of the Hunter Joint Organisation, about why this issue remains a key priority for the Hunter. #HunterJO #HunterRegion #Roads #Infrastructure #RegionalNSW #NSWElection2027

🌿 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUNG PEOPLE FEEL SAFE ENOUGH TO TAKE OFF THEIR MASKS? ❤️ They stop trying to fit in and start feeling free to be themselves. At Into The Wild Adventures, we believe connection comes before expectation and belonging before performance. Recently, over 35 young people came together, many meeting for the first time. Rather than expecting everyone to introduce themselves or immediately engage, we started with something simple… 🐧 Pretending to be penguins, bears, gorillas, kangaroos and silly salmon! And something incredible happened. The nerves eased. Laughter took over. Barriers came down. Connections began to form. Throughout the day, young people challenged themselves through bushwalking, archery, fire-making, building, teamwork and adventure. But the biggest growth wasn't in the activities. It was in learning that: 💚 It's okay to be different. 💚 It's okay to make mistakes. 💚 It's okay to express yourself without judgement. 💚 You don't have to change who you are to belong. Sometimes, as mentors, the greatest thing we can do is adjust our expectations rather than expecting young people to change who they are. Because when young people feel safe, understood and accepted, confidence and connection can grow naturally. And sometimes, it all starts with 35 silly salmon! 🐟❤️ Connection before expectation. Belonging before performance. People before programs. #IntoTheWildAdventures #YouthMentoring #Neurodiversity #InclusionMatters #YouthDevelopment

Last night Jules our Secretary Manager and Mads our Event Manager headed to Serenity at Diamond Beach for the @barringtoncoast Tourism Industry Networking Night - an evening dedicated to bringing together the people and businesses that make our local visitor economy thrive. We had the pleasure of hearing from Maddy Hale, Tourism Industry Development Officer at Barrington Coast x MidCoast Council, and Ashley Gray, Industry Engagement Manager at Destination North Coast. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow local businesses and industry leaders, share ideas, explore ways we can continue to strengthen tourism in our region and hear about the exciting initiatives Destination North Coast has in the works. We’re always looking for new ways to grow, collaborate and contribute to making our beautiful region an even better place to live, work and visit. A huge thank you to Mel, the new Resort Manager at Serenity Diamond Beach, for hosting us, and to the wonderful team at Barrington Coast for always bringing everyone together.

Hunter councils deliver many of the services and infrastructure our communities rely on every day, from roads and waste management to community facilities like libraries and pools and disaster recovery. 🛣️🏊🏽‍♀️📚🔥 As costs continue to rise, ensuring councils remain financially sustainable is becoming increasingly important‼️ Hear from @sue_moore_, Mayor of @singleton_council and Chair of the Hunter Joint Organisation, as she discusses why the Hunter JO Board is advocating for the long-term financial sustainability of local government when meeting with Ministers and Shadow Ministers at NSW Parliament House on 15 and 22 October.
