Reflection on my former self.
After years of every type of abuse from a manipulative and narcissistic ex-husband, I got out alive and didn't look back. Thank you, God!

Day 21

Don’t judge the song… there’s a story here.

This road is messy, but you are strong, beautiful, smart, and tomorrow can change everything.

Keep. Going.

In 2011, six months before my 31st birthday, I fell into a depression. It became one of the hardest years I have ever survived.

If it could happen, it happened that year.

The year started with someone telling me I was nothing and would never be anything.

And every time something metaphorically broke, another piece of me seemed to break with it—until there was nothing left but me and a bathroom floor.

I call that night the night my house, God, and I all got into a fight.

And they both kicked my f*cking ass.

I crawled into bed and finally passed out.

When I woke up, I was met with reality—and the choice that had almost taken me out.

I was broken.
I was a mess.
I was lost.

But I was here.

What followed was a long, hard climb toward understanding that I wasn’t some fragile little bird. That one moment didn’t define me.

And that I deserved space.

I DESERVED TO TAKE UP F*CKING SPACE.

So I made a vision board.

Writing was all over it.

The following summer, I spent time in Baton Rouge getting to know a little boy and finding myself outside of a town I had grown out of.

Three months later, I was in NYC—marking one of those manifestations off the board, working a dream event, and sitting dead center at Wicked.

Elphaba shot into the air.

The lights came on for intermission.

And naturally, I ran out and bought a $50 hoodie.

A $50 HOODIE!!!! 😂

I came home from that trip realizing two things:

I wasn’t going to be everyone’s favorite.

And it was time for me to defy gravity.

Six months later, I moved out West.

That song—and that moment—became a pivotal point in my life.

Because if I could survive the year before, and if I could turn something I’d pasted onto a vision board into something real, maybe I could do anything.

It isn’t about always winning.
It isn’t about never failing.

It’s about trying.

It’s about getting the f*ck back up when life knocks you down. *the rest is in the comments.

I'm in a mood…

I’m cranky and irritated, but then INXS came on and I saw these two and I thought of you three. @krisanna_mua @midnightmusewhispers and @naarahblackofficial

It had me chuckling.

I call dibs on the sidecar. Ahhhhhh…. Weeeeee.

Day 16

It’s Sunday. We start Sundays with Motown/Blues.

Random Fact: Mississippi is known for the most hours slept in a night. I have never slept so well (before or after) as I have in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

If it wasn’t in the Deep South, I’d consider living there just so I can sleep.
