Bladeguard Veteran is finished, and I'm super happy with the finished product. His sole purpose is to aura farm on objectives. I wish there were more models that had duster or trench coat-syle tabbards.

The lava recipe is just a heavy coat of Corax White with a layer of Flash Gitz closer to the solid ground, then a heavy glaze of Casandora Yellow. If anyone has a different recipe for lava, i'd love to try it out.

Managed to snap his banner relic off just above his hand, so I got to make my first attempt at drilling and pinning since starting this hobby. We'll see if it holds.

Ancient from the Armageddon box. I'm a real slut for literally anything involving a war banner or relic carried on a stick. Can't get enough. Attempted something new and cheeky with my base. Built it up just a little with a technical, hit it with a bit of black contrast, and then did the lava flow with a bright white, yellow on the edges, and then the liberal application of an orange glaze.

Finally finished the big man himself, Merek Grimaldus, Reclusiarch warrior-priest of the Black Templars, Veteran of the Third War for Armageddon, Hero of Helsreach (as if there was only one), and Defender of the Temple of the Emperor Ascendant.

Particularly jazzed about how the Imperial Fists plasma pistol turned out. Eventually I'll get off my ass and finish his retinue of cenobyte servitors.

The script decal on his Book of Litanies is from @themightybrush

Two more Incercessors done. Finally getting my plasma pistols to look halfway decent... might start experimenting with glow effects next time. Also might be the best face i've done yet. Hitting that tiny dot for the pupils might be the most nerve wracking thing I've encountered in a long time.

Shout-out to my wife, who takes way better pictures of my little guys than I do.

A Black Templar Apothecary, moments after granting the Emperor's Peace to a brother Templar. The main purpose of the Apothecary is not so much to save or to heal, but rather to ease the passing of another Marine in his final moments and to then recover that Marine's gene-seed for reintroduction into the chapter's genetic repository, ensuring the he lives on future generations.

Took a long time to finish this guy... might be my proudest piece yet. Even now, while posting, I see a couple things I still want to add to him.

WIP Wednesday. An almost-done Black Templar Apothecary with a lil' extra white, because, he's like a medic. But he's not REALLY a medic. He's a grimdark medic. In the grim, dark future, medics don't save lives, Morty. They just harvest your gene-seed to make new Space Marines with.

A Sword Brother wielding a power hammer. I experimented with giving the hammer a thermal effect, which turned out better than expected but not as good as I hoped. Also continuing my efforts to nail down the specific grim-dark effect i'm looking for, which included dark metallics and an AK grime wash on his cape, tabbard, and armor.

Crusader Ancient is mostly done. Maybe a few transfers for the banners, but otherwise he's ready to go.

Ancients are veteran Space Marines also known as Standard Bearers, responsible for carrying the battle standard of their companies or even their chapter into combat. The standard is adorned with relics, icons and artifacts of deep significance to the Ancient's chapter. It is understood that the Ancient will protect the standard with his life, if necessary. To let it fall from his grip while he still draws breath is to invite great shame and dishonor upon his chapter.

Six more Black Templar neophytes for the Eternal Crusade. Clean armor and fresh tabards.

Four more done. Mostly. Making modest improvements with my edge highlighting. Got fancy trying to give the flamer that anodized, heat-tempered look... and I'm actually really happy with the result. Faces suck.

Finishing up my first Neophyte.

“The term Neophyte is also used by the Astartes of the Black Templars Chapter for those recruits who are organised as part of a Fighting Company where they train and learn from the veteran Initiates who are in charge of them. As such, the Black Templars do not maintain a standard company of Scout Marines."

"A neophyte will learn quickly from his tutor or die if he cannot. When his supervising Initiate and the Chapter’s Chaplains deem that the neophyte has proven himself satisfactory in courage and skill, he is himself elevated to the rank of Initiate and takes his place in the Fighting Company and in a Crusader Squad."
