POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A basement became a venue. A venue became a community. And that community lasted for decades.

For 32 years, Crayola House in Harrisonburg, VA, was more than a place to see bands. It was a home for DIY music, creativity, friendship, and generations of people who found their community through music.

Now, that story is coming to the big screen.

🎬 No More Punk Time: The Last Days of Crayola House makes its world premiere this Thursday at the Virginia Film Festival!

Last week, I want back to Cville Soundcheck to collaborate with Old Hank to talk with the filmmakers about the documentary, the history of Crayola House, and why preserving these stories matters.

📰 Read the full story and interview on Cville Soundcheck:

🎥 THURSDAY 10/22

🎸 SATURDAY 10/24

Crayola House may be gone, but the music, the memories, and the community live on.

Last summer we set out to bike from Virginia to Rhode Island for our performance at Newport Folk Festival. We had never done anything nearly of this magnitude. We spent months planning and training for the roughly 700 mile journey, which included several shows along the way. Life throws you obstacles, and our musical eco-pilgrimage was full of ‘em. We biked through extreme heat and torrential downpour, climbed thousands of feet in elevation on Appalachian mountains and breezily cruised on east coast boardwalks, had an impromptu group ride with several hundred people in NYC, and grabbed two ferries and a short train after a significant and difficult hand injury. We lived in sweaty spandex and those little clickity bike shoes for 2 weeks. It was incredible.

Our message is simple: get out and go. Find your people and hit the streets. Get out of the car and on your bike or your board.

We’re super excited to share that the Road to Newport Mini Doc is out this Friday July 17th on our YouTube. Link in bio to presave!

Massive shout out to @11thhourracing for their support. Huge thanks to @jamisbikes for the slickest bikes in the world.

Friday night I had the privilege of attending the community screening of @nomorepunktime, a documentary about the legendary Crayola House in Harrisonburg, VA.

What started as a house became something much bigger, a place where bands found their first fans, lifelong friendships were formed, and a generation of musicians discovered what a true DIY music community could be.

The film is incredibly well done. Funny, emotional, nostalgic, and, most importantly, honest. It captures something that anyone who's ever played a basement show, loaded gear into a friend's car, slept on a stranger's floor after a gig, or found their people through music immediately understands.

Huge congratulations to everyone who helped bring this story to life. Thank you for preserving an important piece of Virginia music history and reminding all of us why this scene matters.

Support independent music.
Support local venues.
Support each other.

Because scenes like this don't happen by accident...they happen because people care.
