The Other Side of Dubai…
Luckily, I’m home. Now it’s time for some pleasant memories! In every country, history and art — its roots — are very important to me.

In Dubai, in the old part of the city, the feeling is completely different. The city once stood on two sides of a creek, and now you have Eastern markets, small boat taxis, and contemporary galleries like XV gallery intertwining with displays of gold, sweets, gemstones, and Eastern garments.

You move from one racy place to another, trading in your old jewelry for new pieces and haggling endlessly , drinking saffron-spiced Arabic coffee — and sometimes you can’t tell whether you’re in reality or a mirage in the desert…

The Al Fahidi district will stay in my heart forever 💛!

Flew to Dubai for the launch of my new book from @assouline, “Mystic Mist: The Rituals of Huqqa.” It was a beautiful evening under the stars @huqqame @fsdubai, celebrating with the dream team @oliverpilcherphotography @a.iremkinay @enisersavasti, signing books, and catching up with dear Dubai friends, all with a larger-than-life version of the beautiful cover (illustrated by @georgegreaves_) looming in the background. Many thanks to @sanahyasin and @engiestyle, and beyond grateful to @sameershamsi for pushing me to get on my first international flight in a year to be here for this (though I think he secretly just wanted a boys’ hangout with Z). #DubaiBySK #BySarahKhan
