My guest, writer @mikesacks , on how people mistakenly assumed his love of musicals had to be draped in irony or have nostalgia attached to it when it was just a legit love and awe of their creation. Part of our @revolutionspermovie discussion on Jesus Christ Superstar-out now on any podcast app.

My guest this week is @mikebsacks (NY Times bestselling author and creator of weirdo audio projects featuring Jon Hamm, John Waters, Bob Odenkirk, and Laraine Newman) who picked Jesus Christ Superstar as this week’s music film to discuss!

We also talk about misremembering scenes from movies we watched as kids, trucker films of the 70s, Paul Williams, Mike’s novelizations of “movies” such as the grunge classic Slouchers, working on his audio novelization of Stinker Lets Loose with Jon Hamm, our mutual obsession with Chris Elliott (PLUS Mike gives us a world premiere scoop on the plot of his new audio project with Mr. Elliott!), Bad Ronald, why Bob Odenkirk sent my video store Mr. Show VHS tapes, how we each discovered Jesus Chris Superstar, seeing the Afghan Whigs perform “39 Lashes” as their opening number in the early 90s, how Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice couldn’t get the funding to stage JCS, Mike renting the film and why he hid it from his parents, Carl Anderson’s haunting performance as Judas, the polarizing performance by Ted Neely as Jesus, the newer documentary Superstars, Bee Gees and their collaborations with Yvonne Elliman, and Mike lays a bunch of knowledge and myths about JCS from his proposed 33 1/3 book on the musicial!
Listen to @revolutionspermovie wherever you get your podcasts.

Before Stan, there was Randy.

Years ago, Mike Sacks found 11 CD's at a garage sale.
They told the story of another mediocre man from Poolesville, Maryland. Ceaselessly ambitious and at times off-putting. Randy has big, big ideas.

Listen to the completely unhinged audio memoir of Randy S.
CD 1 is out now on the StanLand feed.

If you're impatient, all 11 episodes are available on the Enter StanLand subscription on @applepodcasts.

Feat:
Dave Willis (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Archer)
Eric Jason Martin (StanLand)
Ted Travelstead (Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell)
