Tonight I return to @communionsundays_mpls with our techno boy band @onlyonlyforever - a moment myself, @terrtheom & Skelly have been anticipating for months!

Excited to share the booth with @christianjamesmpls , @stevencentrific & @mikegervais who have shared much wisdom & inspiration with us over the years. Arrive early to catch the young legend @ammarelsayed as well.

@greatbeyondmn year 6 in the books! I think my favorite one so far despite the heat. Many adventures were had and my soul is happy. Thanks to the crew and thanks to the peeps who danced to my set. I look forward to getting feral in a field like that so much. ✨✨✨✨

Field Notes, On Communion IV: Found Familiarity

Sunday glow.

Weather tempered us
the first two Sundays.

Then this.

Sun over the canopy.
Bodies facing sound.

Familiar faces arriving.
Unfamiliar ones too.

A nomadic little village
gathered around rhythm,
heart,
and whatever keeps
bringing us back.

I arrived early
to get my bearings.

Crew moving around
with final touches.

The little engine
getting ready
to become a room.

Ethan was there.

Mike Gervais’s son,
now grown,
finding his own way
into the work.

Augie was there too.

Our techno youngling,
readying himself
beside people
who have carried sound
across many rooms
for a long time.

Erika and BMG.
Interdimensional Transmissions.
Detroit.

No need to make anyone mythic.

The work speaks.
The rooms remember.

I found Augie
beside his mom.

Proud moms meeting.

That kind of thing
stays with me.

Fresh faces arrived.

Some from Phoenix.

Some making the pilgrimage
for the first time.

I am, admittedly,
a chatty Cathy.

Probably
my neurodivergence.

Talking keeps momentum.

But also,
I love getting to know
fresh faces.

Show and tell.

I brought my Nikon D750
and the 80-200 AFD 2.8
with a Midwest Freaks sticker
on it.

That pairing
did a lot of the looking
for me at TGB 2025.

Bringing it here
felt like continuity.

A witness
carried from one room
into another.

That is the Midwest.

Speed run of my (first ever) trip to Yosemite. Insert all the cliche lore about how great this place is. Somehow it’s exceeded all expectations. Still here and I can’t wait to come back to build more lifelong memories with new and old friends. What a privilege it’s been.

System in Minneapolis a couple weeks back was unreal! It felt great to be back in front of the Minneapolis cohort once again, and I really mean it when I say I’ve never played a bad party in this city! Big thanks to @mikegervais @klasic_girl_ Centrific and @web.of.deception and so many others for putting this together and taking care of me while I was there!

Finally, a very special thank you to my son, Ethan @carhartt_trampstamp . Not only was it incredible to have you there when the lights came up on such a special night for me, but having you there shoulder to shoulder in the days leading up meant the most. From climbing ladders and hauling gear to turning wrenches and doing everything in between to get this show ready for everyone—thank you for being my right hand. I’ll never forget it.

For me… it’s back to the desert as SYSTEM returns to it’s cave. SYOTDF this summer Mpls. If you need me I can be found next to Steve throwing elbows ;)

Tonight in Minneapolis we are set for the next chapter of a 15+ year saga of Shenanigans, and I will be sharing the stage once again with Mr. @mikegervais for the 15 year anniversary of his SYSTEM series! I really mean it when I say, I have never played a bad party in Minneapolis and I’ve gotten to play here for almost 20 years now 🤯🤯🤯. I would wager to say it’s one of the most important scenes in all of the US, and it’s a result of so many people in the scene working to support one another even when it’s not specifically their event. Shout outs to Mike, System, @intellephunk , Hush, and so many others who have cultivated this scene and done exceptionally well at bringing in the younger generations to be part of it.

I thought it to be fitting to share some old photos of @mikegervais @jon_hester__ and I from Detroit in what I believe was 2008 at Movement. Details might be blurrier than most of us would admit, but some key facts our collective forensic efforts from the night revealed was that Jon, Mike, and I got this idea to use a bench to boost us up on a wall that was certainly less than a foot in width, and we were oblivious that the other side of the wall was about 3-4 meters down to a gravel parking lot. Suffice it to say, we had no business being up there even if we were 100% fit, and we were….at best 91% fit, but I might have written that percentage down backwards while recalling. We stayed up there for some time, and by a miracle returned to safety. @kate_simko was providing the soundtrack during this time I believe.

While we’ve become slightly less stupid over the years, our friendship remains, and I cannot wait to celebrate tonight with everyone at SYSTEM!!! ❤️❤️❤️
