Old Fort is still rebuilding after Hurricane Helene and now, a brand-new trail is moving forward. 🚵 The G5 Trail Collective, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, is seeking contractors for C2, one of the largest and most important pieces of the Old Fort Trails Project. The proposed trail would bring: 🚵 5.5 miles of advanced, backcountry riding ⛰️ Nearly 3,000 feet of vertical descent 🌲 A connection from historic Heartbreak Ridge toward Jarrett Creek Road 🪨 A hand-cut style incorporating the natural rock and terrain of Pisgah There’s also some history behind this route. C2 roughly follows the alignment of a trail that was decommissioned more than 20 years ago, bringing back a connection that has been missing from this trail system for decades. After everything Old Fort and the surrounding trail community experienced during Helene, seeing restoration happening alongside new investment in outdoor recreation is an exciting sign of what’s ahead. We’ll be following C2 as the project moves forward.
