248 years ago, our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, risking their lives to protect our unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Many of these founders served in the military and made the ultimate sacrifice for their beliefs, anchoring a new era of service. Their actions demonstrate that a small group of people, fueled by their conviction to build a better world, can fundamentally change the course of human history.⁠

When we launched The Veteran Fund in 2022, we asked ourselves several questions: Has the world improved over the last several decades? Are people happier, healthier, more prosperous, and more free? Is America still the shining city on the hill?⁠

Our team believes that, in many ways, the world has improved. However, in this age of connectivity, there is unprecedented uncertainty. People are more disconnected than ever, misaligned on common values and purpose, with divisiveness at the forefront of many conversations. Further, our nation’s greatest adversaries think and plan decades ahead. We must do the same.⁠

Our intention with The Veteran Fund is to build a 100-year legacy institution to invest in the best leaders our country has to offer.⁠

Yesterday was my birthday…

I woke up to messages and FaceTime calls from my family and friends.

I hosted a virtual graduation, for startups I’m incredibly proud of, that completed our 4 month accelerator program.

I met with our rockstar team at @theveteranfund and got news we have another high-caliber venture partner joining us, that will be announced publicly soon.

I spent the next few hours on Zoom calls with inspiring founders and investors, learning about new industries and technology solutions being built to solve some of our biggest challenges.

I finished meetings for the day and drove to the pickleball courts for fun games with my son and friends.

Holden (my son) and I went to our boxing gym for a great workout and sauna session.

We decided on Korean BBQ for dinner and ate way too much 🙈

I came home to a cake at my doorstep from someone wonderful.

We played a few games of Monopoly Deal (my favorite card game), watched an episode of Silicon Valley (my favorite show), and ended the day with our nightly questions.

In two days, I’ll be heading back to Mexico with our inspiring community at @greatnessventures for our quarterly impact project, building homes for deserving families.

I am beyond grateful that my birthday, looks very much like the other 364 days of my year.

This picture captures how I’m feeling quite well… grateful and in awe of what’s around me, moving forward with curiosity and excited for what’s ahead.

Thanks for being part of my journey and cheers to this next chapter ⚡️

15 years ago... I became a dad.
.
.
Over the years, Holden and I have climbed mountains and swam in deep seas (literally and figuratively) on our adventures around the world.
.
.
The greatest adventure of my all has been the fulfillment of fatherhood and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
.
.
One thing I know for sure is that LIFE IS TOO SHORT to not take chances, spend your days doing meaningful work with great people, and ultimately creating something you’re proud of.
.
.
It’s hard to describe the feeling of seeing my “baby” become a “young man” in front of my eyes... I just know I’m cherishing the heck out of every moment, now more than ever, because I’ll blink and it will be gone.
.
.
Happy birthday to my “little-not-so-little man” and cheers to doing great things with this life we’re blessed with 💙

These children live in a town called El Limonal, Nicaragua. This area has been deemed “inappropriate for human habitation” by international health organizations because of the toxicity levels in the sewage, ground, and air.

Why do I share this? Why do we lead impact trips to places like this? Why do we facilitate masterminds for purpose-driven leaders? Why was @greatnessventures created?

All of these questions have the same answer: Because I believe together, we can create a better world.

This weekend, I’m honored to co-host the HIVE Global Leaders Summit for the second year in a row.

Last year, hundreds of leaders representing ~60 countries came together to exchange ideas on purpose, entrepreneurship, and impact. This year, there will be closer to 80 countries represented.

Stay single until falling in love means finding a partner, not a purpose.

Stay single until you have goals, and plans, and dreams, and places you want to go. Find purpose within yourself, so that the person who one day becomes your significant other will always be a teammate and partner but never the sole reason that you have to exist.

Stay single until you know who you are outside of whoever you date.
.
.
Stay single until you understand yourself outside of the relationship you’re in – where you know what kind of person you are and what you like and what you want to spend your days doing, without needing a significant other to define those things for you.

Stay single until you love yourself enough so that another person’s love makes you joyful and happy and full, but not whole. Stay single until your own self-love is enough for you. Stay single until you learn how to be proud of yourself when you accomplish something, and how to be gentle with yourself when you fail. Become someone who knows how to love their own company, so that you can still find joy and fullness with a significant other without ever depending on them for completeness and wholeness.

Stay single until you love yourself for the right reasons.

Stay single until you become someone who lives boldly. Stay single until you are someone who makes yourself try things that scare you, and things that expand your world, and things that are outside of your comfort zone, and things you know nothing about but want to learn something about. Become the kind of person whose thirst and joy for life are constant companions among you, so that you never become complacent or idle or empty.

Stay single until you become someone like this. And once you do, take your time to enjoy it. Remember that you are not becoming this person for someone else, you are becoming this person for you. Give yourself time to live it, to experience this life and this self all on your own. If a soulmate happens to come into the picture, great. They will only be bringing more joy, and laughter, and lightness into a life that is already complete, and filled, and whole.
