POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I had the absolute pleasure of watching @mikeykenneyfiddle and @michaelpaulmetcalfe play at @bristolfolkhouse on Friday night! It was stunning, transportive and very very inspiring - trad tunes spelled out with immense skill and instinct on fiddle and drums alongside beautiful original songs, all stitched together with surreal stories and jokes that were so funny I couldn’t breathe at points. Mikey is one of my favourite musicians on the planet and I can’t recommend enough going along to one of the shows on this tour. He’s in Stroud tomorrow at @the_prince_albert and if it’s anything like Friday it’ll be a VIBE 🤘

'A brilliant Liverpool-style fiddler with a high lonesome voice' ~ Mikey Kenney + special guest Kieran Dacey, with DJ support from Finding Land Folk Show, play The Greys THIS Monday, 13th November.

Mikey Kenney is an original. A passionate and well-respected advocate for traditional music – a brilliant Liverpool-style fiddler drawing primarily on his native North West English and Irish heritage – but grounded in a present-day, urban reality.
He is a musician with wide-open horizons and insatiable curiosity for new possibilities. As evidenced on his latest album, The Reverie Road (Penny Fiddle Records), Kenney’s songwriting is both adventurous and earth-bound, with his high lonesome voice exploring sun-drenched Italian vistas, dream worlds and sounds of the city.
With a reputation for both making quality music and producing wondrous flourishes of creativity, Kenney is also a multi-talented and in-demand collaborator. Mikey is also Musical Director of the Lancashire Youth Folk Ensemble.

“This is magical, medicinal music that defies labels and borders” Liverpool Echo
“Mikey Kenney is an artist for whom music is a calling, not a career choice…a singular and inspiring talent..." fRoots

Kieran Dacey - Bluesy folk n roll - one guitar, two vocals
"Lovely whimsical tunes" BBC Wales
"Great non-trad structure, reminds me of Gomez" Gary Powell (The Libertines)

Finding Land Folk Show DJ - Nick McMaster, writer, presenter and producer of Finding Land Folk Show on Radio Lewes curates a journey across traditional and contemporary folk and folk-adjacent music from the UK and beyond. Expect past and future classics, quirks, uncovered gems, guesses and greats.

As our reunion approaches on 27th of January at @kingsplacelondon as part of #scotlandunwrapped we wanted to ask you which songs you have missed the most. Since our last performance in 2020 what song has been playing in your minds?

While we are getting ready preparing setlists and planning rehearsals for our get together, we highly encourage you to get your tickets in advance. You can do so right here: https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/folk/band-of-burns/

What a lovely gig last night.
To be strong is a great song by Kieran that I stepped down for last night and the lovely Mikey Kenney jumped on and played some fiddle. It was so nice.

And lots of nice people came and the pub is also just lovely.

And Mikey did a great set ... fabulous voice

Fiddle tunes and a tale of a ferry to Derry involving a Daniel O’Donnell zombie movie, and an irate goat trashing a fiddle. It could only be @mikeykenneyfiddle

TUESDAY The Necks: One of the great cult bands of Australia, not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, their music is possibly unique in the world today.

WEDNESDAY Derya Yildrim & Grup Şimşek: A fresh and modern group which combines Anatolian Folk and contemporary grooves, often contaminated by psychedelia and progressive rock flavours. Support from Finland.

THURSDAY The Velvet Hands: After forming amidst Cornwall’s blistering garage-rock scene, the four-piece relocated to London and have been making a name for themselves on the capital’s underground guitar circuit ever since.

FRIDAY Sheelanagig: A quintet with a well-stocked armoury of stringed instruments added with the rhythmic energy of flute, drums and a bagful of joint-jumping tunes, these musicians create a real dynamic which is inherent in both their furious dance medleys and original European folk pieces.

SATURDAY Mikey Kenney: An original, passionate and well-respected advocate for traditional music, the brilliant Liverpool-style fiddler draws primarily on his native North West English and Irish heritage – but grounded in a present-day, urban reality.

SUNDAY
