We are busy developing a new work for Naturalis. I’d love to give you a glimpse into my working process!

From the façade of the parking garage of Museum Naturalis, two six-meter-high, insect eyes will gaze down at the world below. They are based on the compound or mosaic eye of the Meriansborstel, a Dutch moth found in the Naturalis collection and named after the 17th-century naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian.

◇Poison Lolly◇

Ranging from post-rock, piano minimalism and a fragility as delicate as glass, to dirty, tight, intensely dense and dark electronic music. Poison Lolly weaves atmospheric textures into experimental songs. Voice, piano, and shimmering sound effects entwine in a fragile symbiosis — touching something deep within, holding you there.
3voor12denhaag wrote: “Echoing the eerie murmur of Tom Waits on ‘What’s He Building In There’, Mariëlle’s voice emerges — slow, ominous. Like a strangler in the dark, it winds its way to your ear, clutching heart and throat in one unrelenting breath.”
Enter the world of Poison Lolly and surrender to its dark, captivating beauty.

The duo consists of Mariëlle Pronk (vocals, effects) and Marcus Graf (piano, sounds, guitar).

◇Vaskimo Arts◇

I generally use “non-traditional” methods with spray cans, acrylics and other media inspired by screen printing techniques. By starting with one shape and adding multiple different layers I translate thought and emotion onto any kind of canvas. Even though my pieces are a snapshot of my own world, I refuse to share my thought behind the pieces with the viewers. Everyone experiences something different while observing my work and I don’t want to influence that in any way possible.

“Don’t hear what I am saying, but listen to what you are seeing.”
