Berlin was not supposed to be the redemption arc.

It was supposed to be the race where @milesandsplats stopped letting the watch take over the whole story.

After Chicago beat him up in every way a marathon can, the falls, the missed PR, the wall, the quiet frustration of knowing the day got away from him, he came into Berlin with a different kind of goal. Not softer. Maybe harder. Have fun again.

That sounds simple until you are halfway through a major, the heat is sitting on your shoulders, your hip decides to become a problem for the first time ever, and your brain starts doing that marathon math nobody asked for.

But somewhere out there, he chose to notice the crowd instead of the pain. The music instead of the doubt. The fact that he was running through Berlin, not just trying to survive it. Then he hit Brandenburg Gate and lost it.

Real tears. The kind you do not plan for. The kind that show up when your body is wrecked but something in you knows this is one of those moments you will keep forever. Star 5 was not about proving he could suffer.

He already knew that. It was about remembering why this matters in the first place.

New York started it. A legacy race for his dad turned into a Six Star chase. One finish line became permission to want more. To see the world. To show his daughter that big goals are allowed to look ridiculous before they look real.

Now Tokyo is waiting. Star 6. His family there to see it. A city he has always wanted to experience. The final piece of a journey that started as one race and turned into a whole new way of seeing himself.

This week’s Mission Spotlight is a little different. It belongs to all of you. 💙

To every person who said yes to Mission Crew, this one is for you. When I started this, I had an idea and a mission I believed in, but I had no idea who would show up, who would believe in it with me, or what it would eventually become.

Then you came. You brought your stories, your goals, your nerves, your laughs, your hard days and your really good ones. You kept coming back. Somewhere along the way, this stopped feeling like something I was trying to build and started feeling like something we were building together.

My favorite part has never been the pace or the miles. It’s watching you show up for each other. Waiting for someone to finish. Checking in when someone is struggling. Celebrating someone else’s win like it’s your own. Making the new person feel like they’ve been here the whole time. Everywhere you look around this crew, there’s somebody who sees you and somebody who’s glad you showed up.

You came here to run, but you gave this mission its heart. You turned strangers into friends and a weekly run into something that feels a lot like home. I don’t take any of that for granted.

And if you’re watching this thinking, “I wish I had something like this,” consider this your invitation. You don’t have to be fast. You don’t have to know anyone. You don’t have to wait until you feel ready. Come as you are. There’s room in this crew for you too.

To my crew, thank you for believing in the mission. Thank you for believing in each other. Thank you for showing up and making this so much bigger than running.

When the road gets long, look around. Your crew is right here. 💙

This past weekend reminded me exactly why I run—why I willingly put myself in a position to suffer.
I got to reconnect with a friend... or what now feels more like long-distance family.
I’ve had the privilege of watching him break personal barriers, grow as a runner, and thrive through the highs and lows of training and racing. He’s shown consistency, passion, and dedication to the sport, and I have no doubt he’ll earn all 6 ⭐️s.
Flash back three years to the Marine Corps Marathon. I was struggling through the race while battling an illness, doing everything I could just to reach the finish line. Then I came across someone who needed help even more than I did. And when someone needs help, you help. It’s as simple as that.
Helping @milesandsplats that day ended up carrying me to the finish line just as much as I helped carry him. Getting to relive that story over a few beers Friday night brought everything full circle.
It reminded me why I fell in love with running.
It’s never really been about the miles, the pace, or even the running itself. It’s about the community. It’s about the overwhelming joy of watching people accomplish goals that many can’t even imagine. It’s about realizing that, no matter where we come from or what we’re chasing, we’re all in this crazy world together.
