“Learning on Country succeeds because it is led and guided by Traditional Owners. It gives young people the opportunity to learn outside the classroom, strengthen their identity and culture, and develop the skills and confidence to succeed in both worlds.”

Our Learning on Country Program is expanding, bringing in four new sites managed by Warddeken and Mimal.

This means more kids through the program getting out on Country and learning both ways.

Last month, a small KKT delegation travelled to the United States for Climate Week. Miliwanga Wurrben, Rembarrnga Elder, senior cultural leader and Director of @mimalland, was a part of this delegation. She shared her own story and spoke about First Nations peoples’ immeasurably long legacy of caring for Country. With so much of the global conversation focused on the scale of the climate and biodiversity challenges, Miliwanga brought it back to what this vital and holistic work actually looks like in very remote, frontline areas.

Friday appreciation goes out to @bushheritageaus who have been a long time partner and supporter of Strong Women for Healthy Country Network.

This year the Bush Heritage team led a number of workshops on Seasonal Calendars - these are valuable tools for monitoring and education bringing together important cultural and ecological knowledge about plants, animals, landscapes and weather changes.

Over the 3 days women from the Elliott, Ngurratjuta and Ngalurrtju ranger groups had mapped their own seasonal calendars for the very first time, starting on their journey of creating their own resources. How exciting!

Thank you so much to the Bush Heritage team, we love the work you do and are very grateful for this continued partnership!!

In Sydney from Darwin and speaking this Friday. Interweaving Country and Design: Integrating Indigenous Knowledge into Design Practice

My Special Studies Program explored research with @mimalland an Indigenous-owned organisation in South Central Arnhem Land, on Dalabon, Rembarrnga and Mayali Country.

At Mimal’s Ranger Base in Weemol, I work as facilitator of its building programme. The talk draws on the drawings, interviews and photographs made through that work — and how cultural authority, local materials and building practice shaped design decisions.

@sydney_arch_design_planning ADP Lounge · SSP Special - with other academics discussing their research > Sophia Maalsen, Anastasia Globa and Phil Gough, facilitated by Naseem Ahmadpour.

Friday 25 September · 11:30am–12:30pm
Lecture Theatre 231, Wilkinson Building, University of Sydney

Introducing Danisha and Jasmin, both from the Dalabon and Dukul nations, of the Northern Territory.
Danisha works as a Ranger with Mimal Land Corporation.
Jasmin is the Tiwi Rangers Coordinator.
Sharing their time with me and patience hanging on Rembarnga country during the Strong Women for Healthy Country forum. So amazed at the type of work these Rangers do as part of their roles, in remote locations with limited on ground resources. It is so removed from our lives down South. But you can clearly see they absolutely love what they do out on Country. Thanks so much for your time, laughter and beautiful smiles Danisha and Jasmin 🙏🏽 #millyhooperphotography #travelphotographer #aboriginalwomenrangers #caringforcountry #deadly
