From the brickworks to the exhibition! 🧱✨

BRICKS 7 brings together students from Belgium, France and Germany – including us at IKKG! Together with students from LUCA School of Arts Ghent and the art school in Nancy, we explored, experimented and created on a large scale using unfired clay bricks at the Montrieux brickworks.

The results of this Erasmus+ project will soon be on show in Ghent. Come along!

Drei Orte, drei Ausstellungen, viele künstlerische Perspektiven.

Am 4. Juli wurden die Abschlussausstellungen des @ikkg_art_institute im b-05 Kunst- & Kulturzentrum in Montabaur, im @keramikmuseumwesterwald in Höhr-Grenzhausen und im @neuerkunstvereinmittelrhein in Neuwied eröffnet.

Zu sehen sind Arbeiten junger Künstler:innen, die Malerei, Skulptur, Glas, Keramik und installative Formen miteinander verbinden.
Die Ausstellungen zeigen die Vielfalt, Persönlichkeit und Experimentierfreude zeitgenössischer Kunst.

Es war ein schöner Nachmittag voller Eindrücke, Begegnungen und neuer Perspektiven.

Die Ausstellungen sind noch an den jeweiligen Orten zu sehen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich!

Three venues, three exhibitions and a wealth of artistic perspectives.

The final exhibitions organised by the @ikkg_art_institute opened on 4 July at the B-05 Art & Culture Centre in Montabaur, the @keramikmuseumwesterwald in Höhr-Grenzhausen, and the @neuerkunstvereinmittelrhein in Neuwied.

On display are works by young artists who combine painting, sculpture, glasswork, ceramics and installation art.
The exhibitions showcase the diversity, individuality and experimental spirit of contemporary art.

It was a lovely afternoon full of impressions, encounters and new perspectives.

The exhibitions are still on display at their respective venues. They’re well worth a visit!

Am kommenden Samstag starten 10 Absolventinnen und Absolventen des hiesigen @ikkg_art_institute der @hskoblenz ihre Abschlussausstellungen an drei spannenden Orten. Einer davon ist das Keramikmuseum und wir laden Sie herzlich ein, am Samstag um 16:30 Uhr mit İmran Engin Doğan und Mina Vaez Ghasemi ihre Präsentation feierlich zu eröffnen!

@_imran.dogan_ präsentiert großformatige Bilder und organisch geformte Glasobjekte. Durch die Verbindung traditioneller Techniken wie Glasblasen und Malerei mit digitalen Verfahren wie 3D-Druck und digitaler Modellierung hinterfragt er die Grenzen zwischen Neuem und Altem. Seine expressive, dynamische Farbwelt steht im spannenden Kontrast zu @mina.vaezgh weißmatten Glasarbeiten, die versuchen, einen Raum für Verborgenes zu gestalten und eine Form zu finden, in der das Innere gegenwärtig sein kann.

Wir empfehlen Ihnen von Herzen, den gesamten Ausstellungspfad zu besuchen. Dafür wurde ein zusätzlicher Shuttle-Service organisiert, sodass Sie problemlos vom @b05_kunst_kultur_natur_ev zum Museum und weiter zum @neuerkunstvereinmittelrhein gelangen.

Abschlussausstellungen 2026🔥🔥🔥

Drei Ausstellungen, drei Orte, ein Tag.

Die Absolvent:innen des Instituts für Künstlerische Keramik und Glas präsentieren ihre Abschlussarbeiten in den Ausstellungen „Stellwerk“, „Anatomie des Unsichtbaren“ und „Under the Threat of Absence“.

Die gezeigten Arbeiten setzen sich auf unterschiedliche Weise mit Fragen von Identität, Erinnerung, Transformation, Materialität und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen auseinander und geben Einblicke in die vielfältigen künstlerischen Positionen des diesjährigen Abschlussjahrgangs.

Wir laden euch herzlich zur Eröffnung ein und freuen uns auf einen Tag voller Kunst, Begegnungen und Gespräche.

CLAY AND THE BODY Guest teaching at IKKG – Institute for Ceramic and Glass Art in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany   Two years ago Tontouristen collective was invited by Prof. Markus Karstieß for a three-week guest teaching. We developed the course „Clay and the Body“ with the objective to find new ways to express the relation between site, material and the body. As part of this, we collaborated with performance artist and researcher Dr. Nathalie S. Fari who contributed with her experience to the program.  The students explored how the body can sense, respond to and reflect place through observing, documenting, mapping and performing. Working in groups, they developed site-specific interventions that engaged with the embodied history of specific sites, such as the historic Kannofen, the renaturalized clay pit in Vallendar and the European Pottery Market in Höhr-Grenzhausen. The students used photography and video to trace their gestures and actions. The final results of the course were presented in form of an exhibition at the Kannofen.   Besides, we also visited the clay production site of the company Witgert, where we went for a guided tour trough the whole production process. We also made a stop at the nearby and biggest clay mine in Meudt.   Thank you IKKG (Markus, Nora, Lena, Jens), Nathalie, Firma Witgert and especially all the students for your presence, care and curiosity! 🫶☀️ We had a wonderful time with you! Besides we visited one of the most unique Kannofen that belongs to ceramicists Charlotte and Sigerd Böhmer. The kiln measures over 40 cubic meters and is one of the biggest and few remaining ones in the city. It was fired last time in 2008.

Tomorrow is the day!✨💫
After a full week of packing, driving, lifting, uncrating, installing, adjusting and re-adjusting, we are finally almost there.

The exhibition “Raum & Tat – Glass and Ceramics between Matter and Imagination” opens tomorrow, Thursday at 7 pm @neues_museum_nuernberg .

It has been an intense, inspiring and joyful process working together in this huge concrete space, watching all the works slowly take shape.
We’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to share the final result with you.

Guest teaching at IKKG – Institute for Ceramic and Glass Art in Höhr-Grenzhausen

Tontouristen collective was invited by Prof. Markus Karstieß for a three-week guest teaching in May 2024. As part of this, we collaborated with performance artist and researcher Dr. Nathalie S. Fari who contributed with her extensive experience to the program. She developed a one-week intensive workshop: BODY MAPPING LAB (27.05–02.06.24).

Nathalie guided the students through a week of sensory and embodied exploration. The starting point was the kiln yard of the institute, and the process culminated in a site-specific Body /Clay LAB at the European Ceramic Market in Höhr-Grenzhausen (01.–02.06.2024). Working in pairs, students developed interventions that linked movement, observation and clay through a three-part structure repeated across two days:

20 min mapping:
“Artists-as-archeologists” explored the market based on guiding questions: What forms of human/non-human agency are present? How is the space arranged – structure, atmosphere, flow? What narratives or material encounters arise?

20 min development of 10 min interventions:
Each group devised performative actions, gestures, movements, micro-performances. Always staged at the same location, a prominent staircase in the city.

20 min clay translation:
The embodied experience was then expressed through collective clay work at the IKKG booth, translating fleeting impressions into the tactile material form.

This process allowed students to connect with the environment through movement and touch – bringing together performative interventions and ceramic practice in public space.

Following the workshop, Nathalie wrote a reflective article ”Mapping: From Body, to Place, to Material, to Trace,” which will be published in an upcoming issue of The Teaching Artist Journal (TAJ).
