🎙️ What looks like a cultural norm might sometimes be masking something else entirely. In this episode of MindFriend Talk, Dr. Ravi Gill and Dr. Manpreet Dhuffar-Pottiwal explore a conversation that sits at the intersection of neurodiversity, South Asian culture, and gender expectations. In many South Asian households, men not doing household tasks has historically been framed as a patriarchal norm. But what if, for some men, the difficulty is not about attitude? What if it reflects genuine challenges with executive functioning, such as difficulty prioritising tasks, forward planning, managing time, or processing what needs to happen next? The cultural context can obscure this completely. When avoidance of household labour is expected and accepted, there is no reason to look deeper. The behaviour blends in. But for men who are actually struggling with emotional processing, task sequencing, or the kind of planning that most people do without thinking, that invisibility comes at a cost. The support they might need never gets identified. And a neurological difference goes unnamed for years, sometimes decades. This is not about excusing behaviour. It is about asking better questions. Have you ever considered that a pattern in your household or relationship might point to something neurological rather than simply cultural? 🎧 Listen to the full episode, out today on MindFriend's YouTube - Link in bio 🔗 Dr Ravi Gill Chartered Psychologist & Practitioner Psychologist Specialisation: ADHD, Anxiety, Burnout, Trauma, Depression, Identity, Work-Related Distress Regulatory Body: BPS Based in: Online, UK Dr Manpreet Dhuffar-Pottiwal Chartered Psychologist & CBT Psychotherapist Specialisation: Behavioural Addictions, Intergenerational Trauma, Compulsive Behaviours, EMDR Regulatory Body: BPS, BABCP Based in: UK #neurodiverse #mindfriendtalk #neurodiversity #southasianmentalhealth #wellbeing
