✨ YOU ASKED. WE LISTENED. We’ve heard from so many women who are interested in Beyond Silence: Asian Women in Leadership, but needed a virtual option to participate. So we’re making it happen. Beyond Silence will now be a 6-week HYBRID experience! 💻 Weeks 1–4: Virtual Build your confidence, strengthen your public speaking skills, develop your personal story, and learn alongside a supportive community of Asian American women. 🎤 Weeks 5–6: In Person This is where we bring it all together. Participants will practice, refine, and ultimately step in front of the room to deliver the speeches they have been developing throughout the program. The Asian Library 5910 Baxter Blvd Led by TEDx speaker and public speaking trainer Mayuko Mayhill, this experience is about so much more than learning how to give a speech. It’s about finding your voice. Building confidence. Learning how to tell your story. Connecting with other women. And becoming more comfortable taking up space in the rooms where your voice matters. Throughout the program, each participant will develop one speech or personal story, and we will grow together as a cohort—giving feedback, encouraging one another, and watching that story become stronger week after week. The real value is not in the price of the program. It’s in the skills, confidence, relationships, and community you’ll carry with you long after the final session. What an incredible summer! ☀️🇰🇭 Our Summer Khmer Language Class has officially come to an end, and we couldn't be prouder of everything our students accomplished. Over the past several weeks, they learned how to express emotions, identify fruits, and use the proper Khmer words to respectfully address elders and younger people—all while building confidence and deepening their connection to the Cambodian heritage. One of the highlights of this class was that it was taught by one of our own youth leaders, Johnny Ta. At the Cambodian Legacy Project, we believe that when young people are given the opportunity to lead, they inspire the next generation while strengthening our community. And of course, we had to end the summer the best way we know how—with food, music, laughter, and a dance! 💃 Thank you to all of our amazing students and families for making this summer so special. There are not enough words to express the deep gratitude I feel for this entire experience. Standing on the red dot, sharing an idea that matters deeply to me, in a space built for curiosity and connection was surreal, energizing, and humbling✨ What impacted me most was the human side of the experience: the conversations backstage, the encouragement throughout the journey, practicing in front of loved ones, the 14 incredible women that also walked this path with me and dared to share their stories 💫 Thank you to everyone who supported me through this journey: * those who challenged me * those who listened to early drafts * those who reminded me to breathe * and those who believed in the message before it ever reached the stage Thank you to the @tedxsugarcreekwomen team and every kind soul involved who poured so much care into every thoughtful detail. As many of you, I thought TED was about the talks. Until I saw what happens before someone walks onto that red circle. Last Saturday, March 28th at TEDxSugar Creek Women, I stood behind the stage not as a spectator, but as part of the heartbeat of the event. And what I witnessed… changed everything! I saw women holding back tears before stepping into their power. I saw last-minute adjustments: makeup, styling, mic checks, while emotions ran high. I saw family members waiting, proud and nervous. I saw speakers rehearsing not just words, but courage. I helped with lineups, follow-ups, photography sessions, video recordings preparation, styling and those quiet, invisible moments no one ever posts about. And that’s when it hit me: The real TED experience isn’t just what happens on stage. It’s everything that happens around it. As a TED Ambassador and now part of the event support team, I can say this with full conviction: The behind-the-scenes stories are just as powerful as the talks themselves. And here’s the truth most people don’t realize when you may think you have seen and experience a quite bit of great events from different industries, different scales, different brands...well, it seems like nothing… comes close to TED. Because TED Conferences doesn’t just produce events. They really create transformation. The warmth. The kindness. The attention to detail. The energy in every corner of the room. It’s not accidental. It’s designed. From a marketing perspective, this is what world-class brand experience looks like: It’s not about the stage. It’s about the feeling people take with them. Every touchpoint matters. Every emotion is intentional. Every person is part of the story. At TED, the people ARE the event. And that’s why it stays with you long after it ends. Meet Mayuko Fukino-Mayhill. Author. Storyteller. Japanese language and culture teacher. Mayuko’s work centers on the power of 伝承 (densho) - the passing down of stories from one generation to the next. She believes storytelling is not just about remembering the past, but about shaping how we live in the present and what we carry into the future. As an educator and a parent of four, Mayuko has seen firsthand how narratives influence identity, empathy, and global understanding. Through traditional folktales and cultural history, she invites audiences to slow down, listen deeply, and recognize the threads that connect us across time and place. For Mayuko Fukino-Mayhill, perspective began with a simple but powerful habit: listening. Growing up, her grandparents were always asking questions. They wanted to hear about her experiences, how she felt, and what she was learning from the world around her... and they truly listened. That curiosity shaped the way she now approaches storytelling, culture, and connection. Her parents added another layer to that perspective by taking her to many different places as she grew up. Through travel, Mayuko learned something that continues to guide her life today. There is always more than one way to see the world. By listening to other people and observing how they live, think, and move through life, she began to understand that perspective expands when we allow ourselves to learn from others.
